Sundays have been a little bit more fun lately. The Oakland Raiders are playing competitive football and are actually producing impressive fantasy numbers at certain positions.
Derek Carr turned in another stud performance with over 300 yards and two touchdowns. He looks like he has turned a corner in Jon Gruden’s offense. If Carr continues his recent play to finish the year, he could become a starting fantasy quarterback once again in 2019.
Jared Cook, Seth Roberts and Jordy Nelson have all benefited greatly from Carr’s recent play. Cook had over 100 yards again and Roberts had 76 yards including a crucial reception late.
The running game was underwhelming from Doug Martin and Jalen Richard, however, Martin did finish with one touchdown and Richard had the excuse of being injured.
With Carr far more comfortable now than at any point this season, I expect more exciting outing this Sunday against a poor Cincinnati Bengals’ defense.
Must Start
QB Derek Carr
Cincinnati is 29th in the NFL against the pass allowing 273.8 yards per game.
As said above, Carr is more comfortable now than ever and is facing a poor pass defense. He will get the job done for the third-straight week.
TE Jared Cook
Cook has sharpied himself in as a reliable target for Carr and a must start at the tight end position in fantasy football.
After a midseason slump, Cook has rebounded nicely turning in two straight 100-yard games in addition to catching three touchdowns in the past four games.
A bad Bengals’ pass defense should not get in the way of Cook having another great day.
RB Doug Martin
Only one team in the entire league is worse than the Raiders defending the run; Cincinnati. The Bengals are dead last allowing 148.1 yards per game.
As such, it should be a green light ahead for Martin who has seen 34 carries in the last two games and has found the endzone in each of the last three Sundays.
RB Joe Mixon
Joe Mixon saw 31 touches last week against the Chargers totaling 138 yards. Now, he gets to face the second-to-last ranked run defense in the NFL. He should have a big day.
It should be noted Oakland has stuffed the run in the last two games giving up just 117 yards total, but I doubt that holds on Sunday.
Proceed with Caution
QB Jeff Driskel
Averaging barely over 200 yards per games in two starts this season, Jeff Driskel is just not a good quarterback and subsequently not a good fantasy play.
But Driskel is playing Oakland who is allergic to putting pressure on the quarterback. If you are in the NFL, there is always potential for a big day if you can sit in the pocket for a lengthy period of time.
WR Jordy Nelson
With 16 receptions over the last two games and a favorable matchup against the secondary, there is not a better week to like Nelson.
However, Nelson has been far too inconsistent this season to trust to start even if the matchup is perfect. And Carr seems to have found a new passion that involves throwing touchdowns to tight ends.
Without touchdowns, Nelson most likely will not perform to a starter’s standard.
WR Tyler Boyd
Some may not know this, but Tyler Boyd has blossomed into one of the better receivers in the NFL. He has 72 receptions for 990 yards and six touchdowns with three games remaining.
Unfortunately for Boyd, the absence of Andy Dalton has forced Boyd’s play to suffer bringing him down from a must start into the middle tier.
Bench
Raiders D/ST
The Raiders sack differential this season is -32.
