The reigning Super Bowl champs come in with their starting quarterback likely out with injury.
The Los Angeles Rams get to host the Philadelphia Eagles for the second year in the row. With news of Eagles QB Carson Wentz not expected to play in the contest, the Rams perhaps may get a break of a further shorthanded Eagles team fighting for a postseason berth and chance to defend their Super Bowl.
With Wentz out, the Eagles will turn back to Super Bowl hero and former Ram, QB Nick Foles. In last season’s contest, Foles came in and was efficient enough to help the Eagles sneak away with a victory. While Foles will likely lean on TE Zach Ertz who already has over 1,000 receiving yards and six touchdowns, here are some of the other Eagles who will try to keep their playoff chances alive.
QB Nick Foles
Foles did start the first two games of the season as Carson Wentz continued his rehab. In those two games, Foles threw for 451 yards on 82 attempts (5.5 average). The Eagles defeated the Atlanta Falcons in their season opener while falling to Ryan Fitzpatrick (Fitzmagic). Look for the Rams defense to build upon their solid game against the Bears and limit the struggling Eagles offense.
LB Jordan Hicks
The leading tackler for the Eagles, Hicks has actually only played in ten games this season but still has 85 combined tackles and three sacks for the season. PFF ranks him the 19th linebacker with an “above average” grade for the season.
WR Nelson Agholor
Surprisingly from checking the stat sheet, Agholor is the second leading receiver for the Eagles. After further review, this is mainly because he has played three more games than fellow wideout, Alshon Jeffery. Despite playing in 13 games and having 53 receptions for the year, Agholor has only scored one receiving touchdown. Look for the Rams cornerbacks to keep him from scoring this contest.
DL Fletcher Cox
The best player for the Eagles, Cox continues to control the defensive interior. Not everything he does shows up in the stat sheet but Cox still has 38 combined tackles and 6.5 sacks for the year. According to PFF, Cox is the second highest rated defensive interior lineman for the season.
RB Josh Adams
The rookie starting running back for the Eagles, Josh Adams has seemingly taken over the lead role in the backfield as he’s lead the team in carries the past three games. Adams leads the Eagles in rushing with 412 yards on 83 carries (5.0 ypc). Adams is a bigger back so the Rams will have to do their best to corral him early and often.
