Ravens News 12/16: Who to root for, predictions, key matchups and more!

To the Ravens news...

Who Ravens Fans Should Root for in Week 15 - Baltimore Ravens

New England Patriots (9-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5-1)

Sunday, 4:25 p.m.

The Steelers are reeling with three straight losses, including to the Raiders last Sunday. The Patriots were on the wrong end of the “Miami Miracle.” These are two good teams looking to bounce back against each other. Tom Brady has a 7-1 record against the Steelers during the Mike Tomlin era. A Steelers loss and Ravens win would put Baltimore atop of the AFC North and firmly in control of their own playoff destiny.

NFL Week 15 game picks: Steelers nip Patriots; Bears stay hot - NFL.com

The Bucs’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. The Ravens are in a far better position: tied for the lead among the wild-card bubble teams and only a half-game back of the Steelers in the AFC North standings. If Baltimore can prevent Jameis Winston from getting into a rhythm, it should be in good shape, matchup-wise, against Tampa’s offense. The Bucs are 27th in rushing, but make up for it by ranking 30th in yards per carry. It’s been a problem all year, solved by neither the rookie draft class nor veteran depth. With Lamar Jackson manning the helm, the Ravens’ run game has been fuel-injected with that crap Doc Brown was dumping into his DeLorean. Their rushing marks the last four weeks with Jackson at QB read like passing numbers: 267, 242, 207 and 198 yards. With Tampa allowing 6.6 yards per play on first down, “Action” Jackson should be in favorable conditions all day. Like Carl Weathers. Well, maybe not Carl Weathers in “Predator.”

Key NFL Matchup/Stat: Ravens edge defender Za’Darius Smith is on pace for a career year as a pass-rusher. He currently ranks 13th among qualifiers at the position in pass-rush win rate (16.6) and eighth in pressure rate (14.0).

8: Fumbles this season by Lamar Jackson, losing two. Jackson has fumbled at least once in all four of his starts. Harbaugh said last week that Jackson and quarterbacks coach James Urban have been stressing “how to protect the ball in the pocket, how to protect the ball when you’re running or scrambling, how to protect the ball when you’re throwing the ball. Those are fundamental drills you work at every day in practice and emphasize all the time.”
