Scouting The 2019 NFL Draft: 12/27 Bowl Game Scouting Guide

Click it here to see which prospects you should be watching for in the 12/27 bowl games.

Independence Bowl: Temple Vs. Duke (1:30 PM EST, ESPN)

CB, Rock Ya-Sin, Temple (#29)

Ya-Sin is a fluid mover with some decent ball skills. It’s even more impressive because he is around 6’2.”

CB, Mark Gilbert, Duke (#28)

Gilbert has some Jets bloodlines in him. He is cousin to the one and only Revis. Gilbert, like his cousin, shows great ball skills and technical prowess.

CB, Duke Shelley, Duke (#8)

Shelly is on the smaller size, and will be limited to just the slot at the next level. With that said, he has the complete package that would translate everywhere.

LB, Joe Giles-Harris, Duke (#44)

It isn’t certain if Joe will be playing today. If he isn’t it would be a shame. Giles-Harris had a monster 2017, and was having a decent 2018 before his MCL injury.

LB, Ben Humphreys, Duke (#34)

Next to Giles-Harris is his less athletic counterpart. What Ben lacks in athleticism, he makes up for in effort and heart.

QB, Daniel Jones, Duke (#17)

Daniel Jones has your prototypical size, and arm strength to make you drool. He has mastered, and succeeded in Dukes offense. It’s when he is forced to play outside of that offense that I worry.

S, Delvon Randall, Temple (#2)

Randall has all the tools to be a special leader in a secondary, but he lacks consistency. It would be great to see him settle into himself.

Pinstripe Bowl: Miami Vs. Wisconsin (5:15 PM EST, ESPN)

Edge/Off-Ball LBer, Andrew Van Ginkel, Wisconsin (#17)

Andrew is very athletic and great in space. Andrew will need to add some weight and strength to be more effective as an edge.

Edge, Joe Jackson, Miami (#99)

At the college level, the combo of Joe’s effort and athletic ability have made him a terror for the Hurricanes. He will need to develop more pass rushing techniques. He has 3 down prospects.

OT, David Edwards, Wisconsin (#79)

Edwards is one of the premier tackles coming out this year. He is strong and uses his power to plow open running lanes.

OT, Tyree St. Louis, Miami (#78)

St. Louis has a lot of skill that needs to be fostered. His technique and footwork are the first things that need to be addressed.

OT/OG/C, Michael Deiter, Wisconsin (#63)

There is no shortage of draft worthy linemen at Wisconsin. Deiter has been a reliable force inside for Wisconsin. He can play every position along the line as well. He will probably kick inside at the next level.

OG, Beau Benzschawel, Wisconsin (#66)

Has that prototypical boxy frame that will do Beau well on the interior at the next level. His handwork and body control is what allows him to win at every level.

C/G, Tyler Biadasz, Wisconsin (#61)

Biadasz is the kind of monster you want on the inside of your o-line. He will maul people and move onto the next. He belongs in a power man scheme.

RB, Travis Homer, Miami (#24)

I love watching RBs, and one thing I look at most is elusiveness. Making people miss is so important. Homes has this ability in spades.

CB, Michael Jackson, Miami (#28)

Jackson moonwalked on the scene in a big way last year in an extended roll. Michael is more than just a great name. He is a very physical DB, who has that long bulky frame that teams love these days.

LBer, T.J. Edwards, Wisconsin (#53)

Edwards is the kind of LBer that will hang close to the LOS and take on blocks. He works well in tight spaces and is a cog against the run

LBer, Ryan Connelly, Wisconsin (#43)

Works his magic in space, and can move sideline to sideline. Ryan takes very angles and can pack some power behind his tackles. Connelly also shows some ability in coverage as well.

LBer, Shaq Quarterman, Miami (#55)

Shaq has some great production, but there are times he looks like a chicken without a head. He is also technically unsound when taking on blocks

S, Jaquan Johnson, Miami (#4)

Johnson is a powerful safety that isn’t afraid to put his nose into the ball. Where he lacks is discipline in coverage, and technique.

DL, Gerald Willis, Miami (#9)

Willis has some next level explosion off the snap. It often catches linemen off-guard. He can be caught too upright sometimes and loses leverage.

Texas Bowl: Baylor Vs. Vanderbilt (9:00 PM EST, ESPN)

WR, Denzel Mims, Baylor (#15)

Mims moves very well for a man his size. His catch radius is pretty impressive. The one thing he needs to improve on is his hand usage and route running.

WR, Jalen Hurd, Baylor (#84)

Hurd is another big receiver that moves very well. He is a great tool to have in the red zone. He has some skills that will need to be developed.

TE, Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt (#80)

Pinkney has some prospects as a receiver. He has reliable hands, and uses some good quickness to stretch the field. He will need to become a better blocker and route runner.
