This is why Swearinger talks. Players upset about getting extra work in. Playoffs still on the line technically. And more time needed to get new QB and OL in at least the same novel, let alone same page. https://t.co/ijoKkBFAvH

One thing that can't be said is that Gruden isn't pushing them this week.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 6, 2018
Typically they wouldn't have practiced yesterday following MNF. They did. They also wore pads for part of practice and went very long today. Players weren't exactly thrilled but they had to get the work in
One more note on the practice thing:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 6, 2018
It's week 14. Dudes are beat up. This team is injured like crazy. Rest is critical. You can't complain about the injuries and complain they didn't like a long, arduous, cold practice in December. Being fresh and fast matters, too.
Adrian Peterson said they know people have given up on them. He’s noticed there was a lot more media around a couple weeks ago. But he believes they can win out. #redskins

“I continue to pray for him.” — Adrian Peterson on Alex Smith, who is reportedly experiencing complications related to his leg injury/surgery. Peterson said a group of teammates recently visited Smith in the hospital. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/3JwgsDZxwk
— Tarik El-Bashir (@Tarik_ElBashir) December 6, 2018
Gruden said he was asked by Alex Smith as well as Smith’s wife, father and mother to keep his recovery private. “When the time is right Alex will address the media.”
— Les Carpenter (@Lescarpenter) December 6, 2018
Gruden says the biggest problem getting Sanchez acclimated right now is the cadence. He said there were a few false starts today. “I’m about to lose it quite frankly.”
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 6, 2018
He says the QB needs to be consistent. Can’t keep a simple cadence against the NYG front either.
Gruden again says “wishful thinking” Colt McCoy could be back in 3 weeks but realistically it will probably be longer

McVay has a great memory, but I don’t understand why that McVay clip went viral at all.

In light of the Alex Smith news, have to reiterate that there is no cap relief for the Redskins due to a player suffering a career-ending injury. Smith's 2019 salary of 16M is already guar'd for skill, injury, & cap. His 2020 salary of 15M is guaranteed currently against injury.
— J.I. Halsell (@SalaryCap101) December 6, 2018
As brought to my attention by @john_keim & @Russellmania621, confirmed that the #Redskins have a 12M insurance policy against Alex Smith's signing bonus. Meaning, they could potentially use this 12M as a cap credit to reduce Smith's dead money from 52.6M down to 40.6M.
— J.I. Halsell (@SalaryCap101) December 7, 2018
-Several Redskins players went to go visit Alex Smith at the hospital and encourage him. More than could fit in Smith's room. Smith has asked that players/coaches not share details about his condition.

The last time Mark Sanchez won a game as starting QB, was December 28, 2014 (as the Eagles starting QB-- vs Giants)
— Rich Goldberg (@goldystats) December 7, 2018
Amazingly, Washington is only tied with the Buccaneers and 49ers for the 10th-most starting QBs in that span. NFL teams have used an average of 15 starting quarterbacks since 1999. The Browns have used 30. The Patriots have used 5.

Top 5 highest graded safeties when targeted 10+ yards down the field:
— Cole Brown (@PFF_Cole) December 6, 2018
1. Derwin James - 91.8
2. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - 89.4
3. Justin Reid - 88.3
4. Eddie Jackson - 82.8
5. Kevin Byard - 75.1
Even more impressive, Derwin James has allowed a 5.4 passer rating on such throws.
Sheesh Rick Snider went there: "It’s time for the Redskins to fire team president Bruce Allen. They should not wait until after the season or even until Sunday. Allen’s exit can’t come quickly enough." https://t.co/hjpAMZt4Dy
— Dan Steinberg (@dcsportsbog) December 6, 2018
Me, I don't write, but it's an interesting question. Which is the subset of people who would be unhappy if Bruce Allen gets fired? Who is his constituency?
— Dan Steinberg (@dcsportsbog) December 6, 2018
Snider has always been clingy when it comes to GMs, one of the reasons Allen has lasted so long. https://t.co/4xpBO1U9Fh

NEWS: Reuben Foster was briefly detained by Santa Clara police in an October incident after a 911 call reporting a loud disturbance. One neighbor told police he heard "what he believed to be items thrown" pre records obtained by @usatodaysports. Foster was not arrested. pic.twitter.com/fc9RaAppcm
— A.J. Perez (@byajperez) December 7, 2018
Asked Gruden if Foster’s accuser’s comment changed anything for the organization:
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) December 6, 2018
"No, he's on the Commissioner's Exempt List and we're not even going to talk about Reuben right now." #redskins https://t.co/QCEVdXDYYZ

Aikman to his credit ripped the league. “The NFL is tripping all over itself” They can’t get out of their own way after it was revealed that refs have been instructed to call more holding plays. This cake after a phantom hold by tackle Erik Flowers.

.@MikePereira noted on @NFLonFOX broadcast that offensive holding was way up in Week 13. Indeed: 28 pct more than in next-highest week. Weekly breakdown: pic.twitter.com/k3Z3htPf9w

I covered the final three seasons of Tom Coughlin's career as Giants coach. Those teams were incredibly bad, and out of contention by December every year, but they never looked as if they'd quit. Watching this Jaguars team from the box has to be making Coughlin crazy.
