With the Jacksonville Jaguars’ season over, it’s time to turn towards the offseason and specifically how the roster is going to get built going forward.
One of the first decisions that needs to be made is which of our own free agents we’re going to keep. We looked at the offense yesterday, now let’s look at the defense.
The Jaguars have three free agents whose contracts are up this year. They don’t represent all the players who might get the axe in the coming weeks or who might be trade bait — Malik Jackson perhaps? — but they are the ones on which a decision has to be made before March.
Not a lot of players, so this one will be quick — the team keeps Jarrod Wilson and Tyler Patmon, young guys who showed quite a bit of promise in larger roles this year than expected.
Martrell Spaight, who was signed as a late season addition this year, will be let go and a younger guy will take his place. After all, Spaight will be going into his fifth season in 2019 — better to find a rookie linebacker or developmental guy to fill that backup role.
What do you think? Which free agents on defense will likely be coming back in 2019 and which ones will be seeing the boot? Let us know in the comments below!
