Bill Polian describes the process of becoming a hall-of-famer

The Hall of Fame executive talked to 1st & 10 @ 10 on Friday on the nerve-wracking emotions one feels.

When one gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it’s a life-changing event.

It’s the culmination for a life of work that is remembered forever. When people visit the museum in Canton, Ohio, they will see the busts of all who have been enshrined. It’s their path to immortality.

The process to make that happen, unless you’re a sure-fire, first-ballot hall of famer, is stressful, exciting, nerve-wracking and tense. When you become one of the 15 finalists, as Denver Broncos legends Steve Atwater, Champ Bailey and Pat Bowlen are for the class of 2019, all of that amps up tenfold.

To give listeners an idea of what that process is like, Ryan Edwards Andrew Mason and Atwater talked to hall of famer Bill Polian on Friday’s 1st & 10 @ 10 on Orange & Blue 760. The former NFL front-office executive and current analyst for ESPN described what it was like for him prior to getting inducted in 2015.

For Atwater, Bailey and Mr. B, hopefully the process is capped off with their induction in the Hall of Fame.

Bonus listen

MHR’s Laurie-Lattimore Volkmann joined the guys to talk about the Hall of Fame (she made it clear Steve needs to get in this year). She was also a skosh indecisive on who her favorite new coach is and which coach could have the biggest impact on which player.
