Golden Tate’s touchdown catch against the Bears almost didn’t happen

The Eagles receiver admitted he wasn’t sure of the play at first, but was quick to adjust his route.

Late in the fourth quarter against the Bears, the third-round draft pick the Eagles traded to Detroit for wide receiver Golden Tate seemed a lot more reasonable.

On fourth down, and with their playoff run hopes on the line, Tate made a big time catch to put the Eagles up by one. And while it looked clean, the wide receiver admitted afterward that he didn’t actually know Foles alerted the play until after the ball was snapped.

While it’s not exactly encouraging to learn that Tate wasn’t entirely sure of the route before peaking over his shoulder, his ability to make the adjustment after seeing Nick Foles roll out of the pocket is exactly what the Eagles were hoping to get with his veteran experience.

It won’t work every time, but they just needed it to work once. And it did.

From Doug Pederson telling Nick Foles, “We’re going to get the ball back and go win this game, okay?”, to the moment Treyvon Hester tipped the Cody Parkey field goal attempt, there were no shortage of special moments from the Eagles Wild Card win.

And, hopefully, they’ll just keep finding ways to win — but, maybe in not such heart-stopping, can’t watch, can’t breathe fashion. (Please.)
