Larry Fitzgerald returning changes nothing for the Arizona Cardinals

At 36 years old, Larry Fitzgerald is not a long term piece for the Cardinals any longer, so he should not change any of their plans in free agency or the draft.

For many of us, the news of Larry Fitzgerald coming back to the Arizona Cardinals for the 2019 season is perhaps the best news we could have asked for this offseason. The most decorated player in Arizona Cardinals history didn’t want to hang it up with the bad taste of the 2018 season still in his mouth and I think I speak for most Cardinals fans in saying that we are glad he will be back for at least one more year!

But even with Fitz back in the fold, nothing really changes for the Arizona Cardinals.

Wide receiver is still a position that the team will likely look to address either through free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft. Fitzgerald is 36 years old. Chad Williams has been wildly inconsistent and oft-injured, so he really can’t be counted on going forward. The only solid piece the Cardinals truly have is Christian Kirk and he is currently injured.

So if GM Steve Keim has wide receivers near the top of his board that he may want to look at in the first round (with a trade down) or second round, he shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on anyone. Fitz being there doesn’t change that because even if the new rookie has to sit for the majority of snaps in his first year and watch Fitzgerald do what has made him successful for 15 years, that isn’t the worst thing in the world. And with Kliff Kingsbury’s air raid offense being put into place, there is no guarantee that a highly touted rookie receiver would even need to sit much at all.

So here’s to Fitz the G.O.A.T. coming back for another year! I can’t wait to see what spots he will be writing his name in for the record books yet again!
