NFL coaches news and rumors: Miami looks like the lone threat left for Kris Richard’s services

All Cowboys fan’s eyes are on South Beach.

When the day after Week 17 rolled around this season, the NFL world was left with eight vacancies at head coaching spots. That’s a quarter of the league.

We’re not even two weeks removed from that day and six of the eight spots have been filled.

New Head Coaches in 2019:

As of the time of this writing there are only two openings left in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins. Cowboys secondary coach and passing game coordinator (plus de facto defensive coordinator) Kris Richard interviewed with three teams and the Dolphins were among them. He could still wind up there in 2019.

There are people speculating that Richard will indeed end up in Miami

The Cowboys are still playing football this season (thankfully) which means that Kris Richard hasn’t had the free time that other coaches have. While he’s done interviews, his priority is obviously what’s going on in the playoffs but that doesn’t mean gears haven’t been in motion.

While nothing is official as of the time of this writing on Wednesday, a report surfaced that many people in league circles do believe that Richard will join the Dolphins as their head coach. That would be great for him and we’d all be happy for his individual success, but he’d be sorely missed in Dallas.

The Dolphins are also thought to be heavily interested in Brian Flores of the New England Patriots, another defensive-minded coach. This is an interesting move as most of the league is gravitating towards offensive minds but someone is going to have to stop those offenses. Maybe? Go figure.

For now we’re simply in a game of wait and see when it comes to Kris Richard. If the Miami Dolphins hire somebody that isn’t him then odds jump to essentially 100% that he’ll stay with the Cowboys next season.

So go ahead and do that, Dolphins. Hire someone. Anyone. Please.
