The Broncos put the finishing touches on their offensive coaching staff.
According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have hired T.C. McCartney to be the team’s Quarterbacks coach under Offensive Coordinator Rich Scangarello. They have also hired former Wagner Offensive Coordinator Rob Calabrese to be an Offensive Assistant to Scangarello as well.
As I first reported T.C. McCartney interviewed with Broncos today for the QB coach position and I can now report they have reached agreement. Also: Rob Calabrese will become Broncos offensive assistant. He was Rich Scangarello's RB coach at Wagner and replaced him as OC. #9sports

McCartney served as an Offensive Assistant under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco for the past two years and spent a total of four years on the 49ers staff. So Scangarello is bringing in another Shanahan disciple with him to Denver.
He also comes with a Colorado connection as well. McCartney is the son of Sal Aunese and the grandson of former University of Colorado coaching icon Bill McCartney. So it is a bit of a homecoming for him as well.
Now, the 29-year-old McCartney will be given the big of task of working with the Broncos quarterbacks which may include a top ten selection in the 2019 NFL Draft(aka Drew Lock).
Here is how I see this hire going forward for the Broncos. If Scangarello does as well as the Broncos hope, he will have a Head Coaching gig in the near future. So they would like to have an in-house replacement on the staff ready to take over if/when that occurrence happens. This move also plants the Kyle Shanahan offensive system seed with the Denver Broncos. Scangarello will get the ball rolling and McCartney will continue to learn and potentially take over down the road because of positive circumstances.
The other interesting hire reportedly announced today is Rob Calabrese as an Offensive Assistant to Rich Scangarello.
Calabrese served as Scangarello’s Running Back’s coach at Wagner while he was the Offensive Coordinator. He eventually replaced Scangarello as Wagner’s Offensive Coordinator and now will follow him to the Denver Broncos.
Here is what Wagner’s Head Coach Jason Houghtaling had to say about Rob Calabrese back in 2017 once it was announced he was replacing Scangarello as the teams Offensive Coordinator.
“Rob’s a football guy,” said Houghtaling. “When Rob came on board last year, I knew Rich (Scangarello) would probably be moving on at some point. So, Rich kind of groomed Rob for that position. He was a starting college quarterback, knows the game inside and out, and can coach the offense. Some of Rob’s strengths are just the strengths of a great leader,” Houghtaling added. “He’s passionate about football, he’s loyal, he’s competitive, and he’s organized. I’m really excited about Rob.”
So we have two of Scangarello’s people joining the Broncos staff. Two coaches who have grown with and under him as coaches and two who have bits of knowledge of Kyle Shanahan’s offensive.
Rich Scangarello, TC McCartney, Rob Calabrese all steeped in Kyle Shanahan offensive system. #9sports

It’s clear that they are trying to bring his offensive system to(back) the Broncos, but can they do that without the man himself? Can his disciples do just as well, if not better, with his own system?
TIme will tell.
