The Denver Broncos’ pursuit of a franchise quarterback

Mile High Report columnist Christopher Hart joined The Nate Brown Show on Fox Sports Radio to discuss the Denver Broncos’ interest in finding a quarterback for the future, as well as the need to upgrade the cornerback position in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Wednesday evening I had the privilege of appearing on The Nate Brown Show on Fox Sports Radio in Rapid City, South Dakota to chat about the Denver Broncos. Myself, Nate Brown and co-host Dylan Corbet focused our discussion on what the franchise hopes to accomplish at this year’s Senior Bowl. Enjoy the segment and give it a listen by clicking the embedded link below.

Without question, the Broncos’ emphasis will be evaluating the talented crop of quarterbacks on display in Mobile, Alabama. Everybody knows that incumbent starter Case Keenum isn’t the answer and only a short-term option for the franchise. That’s not debatable but there are those who feel that the 2019 NFL Draft isn’t ideal for finding a quarterback of the future.

That doesn’t appear to be dissuading John Elway and company from doing their due diligence. According to reports, the Broncos appear to be honed in on University of Missouri product Drew Lock with their first-round pick. That news could very well be the worst kept draft secret in the league or perhaps the greatest smokescreen. We will just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

However, what would the Broncos do in a scenario where Drew Lock isn’t available? Conventional thinking would point toward Duke University standout Daniel Jones being next on the radar — but what are the chances that Elway would go in a completely different direction and roll the dice on University of Oklahoma sensation Kyler Murray? Regardless of what quarterback we all personally covet, all of Broncos Country just hopes that whoever the team drafts ends up working out.

We also discuss the Broncos’ need to upgrade the cornerback position. The depth there is a major concern and it’s unlikely that the Broncos will give former first-round pick Bradley Roby a big money extension after an up and down season. I spoke about one prospect the team appears to be sincerely interested in who could become a big-time playmaker in Vic Fangio’s defense.

My appearance on the show should be the first of many to come down the road. Most importantly, show your support to Nate and Dylan by giving them follow on Twitter and be sure to check out and bookmark the station’s official website. The Nate Brown Show airs from 4-6 PM (MST) Monday through Friday on 106.7 FM and 1150 AM and can be streamed online.
