Three Chiefs named to Pro Football Writers of America All-NFL team

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Mitch Schwartz earned the prestigious honors for Kansas City.

After having four players named to the Associated Press All-Pro first team for 2018, the Kansas City Chiefs kept the accolades rolling in on Tuesday with the announcement of the Pro Football Writers of America All-NFL, All-AFC and All-NFC teams.

The Chiefs led all AFC clubs with three selections to the All-NFL team—quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and right tackle Mitch Schwartz.

The Cowboys, Texans, Chargers, Rams, Eagles & Seahawks each had two players on the All-NFL team. In all, 17 clubs are represented.

Mahomes completed 383 of 580 passes for a league-leading 50 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. He had 5,097 yards on the season. Kelce had career-highs in receptions, yards and touchdowns this season by catching 103 passes for 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns. Schwartz, as the best right tackle in football, played a significant role in both players’ successes.

Obviously, all three Chiefs made the organization’s All-AFC team.

Two additional Kansas City players—defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Tyreek Hill—were also named to the all-conference team.

Chris Jones finished third in the league in sacks (15.5) and Hill, like Kelce, had a career year. Hill compiled 87 receptions for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns. Hill also rushed 22 times for 151 yards and a touchdown.

The Chiefs had one member of their team make it to PFWA’s all-rookie team—kick returner Tremon Smith. Smith had 33 kick returns for 886 yards (26.8 yards per return) this season.
