Josh Allen vs. Pat Mahomes throwing challenge could happen in offseason | Bills Wire
The Buffalo Bills might have swung a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs allowing them to draft Patrick Mahomes in 2017, but a year later they still grabbed a powerful thrower in Josh Allen. When Allen was asked who could throw the ball further, he put the challenge out there. “We can find out,” Allen said.
On Barstool’s podcast Pardon My Take, hosts Eric Sollenberger and Dan Katz, known as PFT Commenter and Big Cat, respectively, said they did reach out to Mahomes to see if he would be interested in doing a challenge for charity. He tentatively accepted when they reached out.
San Francisco 49ers Free Agent Target: Dee Ford | Forbes
Based on what we saw this past season with the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s absolutely no reason to believe a better option exists than former first-round pick Dee Ford.
In the latest of a series of articles focusing on 49ers free agent targets, we check in on this still-young pass rusher.
Ford’s Background
Ford entered the NFL as a first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2014 after racking up 16.5 sacks in his final two seasons with Auburn. The hope was that he’d be able to replace an aging Tamba Hali next to Justin Houston.
What will Kyler Murray’s 40 time be at the 2019 NFL combine? | For the Win
Murray is only .03 off Hill’s pace, and the Chiefs receiver might be the fastest player in the league! Hill did not attend the combine, but he ran the 40 in 4.48 seconds at Wes Alabama’s pro day.
Here are Patrick Mahomes’ top 10 plays from 2018 season, according to the NFL | Kansas City Star
After Mahomes won the league MVP award, the NFL put together a video of his top 10 passes from the 2018 season.
There are throws against seven different teams and they are all incredible but for different reasons. Even if fans don’t agree on the order of the top 10, they will probably just enjoy remembering all the amazing things Mahomes did this past season.

Le’Veon Bell, running back, Pittsburgh Steelers
Bell probably earned his freedom from Pittsburgh, and all he had to do was sit out an entire year and give up $12.12 million in game checks. He’ll return to the league this year, and while the Steelers could still place the transition tag on him, that won’t do much to dissuade teams from eventually signing him.
Cardinals sign CB Robert Alford to three-year deal | NFL
Alford’s deal is worth $22.5 million in base salary and up to $24 million, a source told Rapoport, and the cornerback will reap $13.5 million in guaranteed money.
Mark Davis ‘not frustrated’ by stadium situation | NFL
The Oakland Raiders remain without a home for 2019. The situation could become a boondoggle for the team and NFL, but Raiders owner Mark Davis told Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a phone interview Wednesday that he’s not exasperated by the current situation. ”I’m not frustrated,” Davis said. “I’ve said from the beginning, my biggest concern is our fans, and it’s my hope and preference to remain in the Bay Area (in 2019) for them. The fans have always been first in my heart. We do have other options, but the hope is to remain in the Bay Area next season until we move to Las Vegas in 2020, which I remain very excited about.”
Why tanking in the NFL is barely existent | New York Post
Even if you believe the Colts sucked for Luck, it has not resulted in a championship. The Colts have gone to the playoffs four times with Luck but have not reached the Super Bowl. That is one of the reasons that tanking in the NFL is not as good of a plan than it is in other sports. It is difficult for one player to turn around a franchise, and it is difficult to predict who is a can’t-miss player a year before they will be in the draft. Luck was one of the best quarterback prospects in the past 35 years. Even he has not been able to overcome a lack of good players around him.
No kickoffs as AAF action kicks off this weekend | NFL
Nope; no kickoffs for the AAF and its eight franchises as the San Antonio Commanders host the San Diego Fleet and the Orlando Apollos welcome the Atlanta Legends on Saturday in the first foray of league action. A day later, the Salt Lake Stallions will travel to play the Arizona Hotshots and the Memphis Express will head over to play the host Birmingham Iron.
NFL Rumors: Here’s Latest On Josh Gordon’s ‘Indefinite’ Suspension | NESN
While Gordon reportedly is prioritizing his rehabilitation over a return to football, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that while the 27-year-old’s suspension is “indefinite,” the NFLPA could lay the groundwork for his reinstatement in the coming months.

Chiefs preliminary two-round mock draft
Pick 29
Miller’s pick - Georgia cornerback DeAndre Baker
Baker is a good player and gets a lot of late round one buzz in the draft community. He’s a well-rounded player that is solid at a lot of things. Craig compared Baker to a version of Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson, although his ball skills are better. We currently have a second-round grade on Baker. As a draft team, we don’t value Baker that high.
Report: Dave Merritt hired as Chiefs’ defensive backs coach
According to a report from ESPN NFL reporter Field Yates, the Chiefs have hired former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant coach Dave Merritt as their defensive backs coach.
If you follow AP Nerd Squad member Matt Lane on Twitter, you got a hint that this might be coming late on Tuesday night, when Matt happened on to a curious piece of information on the Internet. Such a tidbit of information isn’t always reliable, but in this case, it looks like it was.
Chiefs, GM Brett Veach reportedly stop Patrick Mahomes from competitive basketball
VEACH: “It was obviously a lighthearted discussion. He was in the office the other day and he popped up here. Certainly, his video went viral. We were laughing and we were kind of saying. Like I kind of said earlier with Soren (Petro), the problem with Pat is he does everything 100 miles an hour and it’s so dang competitive. I just said, ‘Hey man. You’re breaking a lot of ankles out there. Just make sure you don’t break your own. I don’t think we need that.’ And he’s like, ‘No, no, no. I gotcha. I gotcha.’
Brett Veach roundup: Patrick Mahomes’ future contract, switch to 4-3 defense, Eric Berry and more
Veach, one of Mahomes’ biggest advocates, wasn’t all that surprised by the quarterback’s success in 2018 but more so his ease and consistency at finding success.
“Even the great players, you always anticipate maybe a wall at some point,” he said. “After seven or eight weeks, OK, they’ve figured this kid out. They know a couple different looks and coverages and combinations that give him issues.”
