The Bills finally made a move on their offensive staff.
The Buffalo Bills announced Saturday that they have hired Ken Dorsey as quarterbacks coach and Chad Hall as wide receivers coach.
Dorsey has been a name long associated with the Bills and head coach Sean McDermott. He coached with McDermott in Carolina on the Panthers staff as quarterbacks coach from 2013-2017. (Current Bills quarterback Derek Anderson was there, too.) He was fired a year ago and spent a year in the athletic department at Florida International University before being named the offensive coordinator at Appalachian State University this past December. That job didn’t last long, as he left about six weeks later to head to Buffalo. He interviewed for Buffalo’s offensive coordinator job when McDermott was hired in January of 2017.
Dorsey’s playing career was super-impressive in college, as he won a national championship and was named first-team All-American along with being a two-time NCAA Quarterback of the Year at Miami. He didn’t translate to the pro game, and was selected in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He had a career as a backup in the NFL for six seasons.
Hall has been with the Bills as a coaching assistant since McDermott was hired. The former NFL wide receiver played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2010-2012, where McDermott was defensive coordinator in 2010. He eventually ended his career with Andy Reid, McDermott’s mentor, in Kansas City in 2013.
Dorsey (37) and Hall (32) are much younger than the coaches they replaced, David Culley (63) and Terry Robiskie (64). Culley left for a promotion with the Baltimore Ravens while Robiskie was fired after the season. Both new coaches will be leading relatively young position rooms in 2019.
