Broncos bite on trade for Joe Flacco from Ravens

Are you looking to upgrade your quarterback situation? Better yet, have you already upgraded your QB situation and are looking for somewhere to send that QB you’re no long er using? Well, John Elway is here for you!

One season after investing $36 million into Case Keenum, whom the Vikings let go so they could sign Kirk Cousins, Elway and the Broncos will replace him with Joe Flacco, who was replaced last season as the Ravens’ starting QB by rookie Lamar Jackson.

Flacco was floundering in Baltimore the past couple seasons. He threw for just 3141 yards with 18 TD’s to 13 interceptions in 2017. Then last season, he was off to a 4-5 start to the season before going down with an injury.

While win/loss record is not a QB stat, with Lamar Jackson in at QB, the Ravens went 6-1, leading the Ravens to the AFC North title.

If the Broncos are making this trade, it is unlikely that it’s just as an insurance plan. Flacco carries with him $18 million for the 2019 season, which is a lot to pay a backup. Plus, they will be eating $10 million in dead money for Keenum. What a delicious trade.

Elway’s track record on QB decisions has been the laughing stock of the league in recent years. People like to credit him for signing Peyton Manning, which isn’t exactly a stroke of genius. If Manning was healthy, everyone knew what he could do. And the Colts have done alright for themselves with Andrew Luck.

After Manning it’s been a comedy of errors in Denver. From drafting Paxton Lynch in the first round and then seeing him beat out by seventh round pick Trevor Siemian, to re-signing Brock Osweiler to ignoring the 2018 QB draft class in favor of starting Case Keenum. It’s been fun to watch it all implode.
