Campbell option picked up

We already knew the Jacksonville Jaguars were planning to bring back veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell, he said as much a few weeks ago, but the team made it official on Monday afternoon. The Jaguars announced that they had picked up the team options for Calais Campbell, special teams ace Lerentee McCray and safety Cody Davis.

Campbell had a $3 million team option to go with his $12 million base salary, but it never appeared like the Jaguars had any interest in making Campbell a cap cut. There was some concern that due to his age he’d start slowing down in 2018 and while his total sack numbers declined, he was as disruptive as ever this past season. Since joining the Jaguars in 2017, Campbell has picked up 25 sacks in 32 games, but his impact has shown up more so than on the stat sheet, constantly being a disruptive force in the backfield.

McCray and Davis have been good special teams players for the Jaguars, the former being a team captain. McCray also flashed some as a pass rusher the past two seasons when given playing time due to injuries and/or suspensions. Davis has mostly played special teams, but clearly he is considered a valuable person on the roster.
