Chiefs confirm Clark Hunt as NFL’s new finance committee chairman

Hunt is taking over the committee previously headed by the late Bob McNair of the Houston Texans.

Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is about to become the chairman of a powerful NFL owners committee.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal’s Andrew Beaton, Hunt will take over the league’s finance committee, which was previously chaired by Houston Texans owner Bob McNair. McNair died in November.

Roger Goodell has sent a memo to clubs announcing two changes on major committees. The finance committee, previously chaired by the late Bob McNair, will now be led by Clark Hunt.

Joel Glazer will now chair the international committee, which had been headed by Hunt.

Before being named chairman, Hunt had served as a member of the finance committee for seven years. Hunt had previously been chairman of the NFL’s international committee. Joel Glazer — owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — will become chairman of the international committee, but Hunt will remain a member.

Hunt also serves on the digital media committee, the conduct committee, and the management council executive committee.

The finance committee — along with the stadium committee — is directly involved in matters relating to the sale or relocation of NFL franchises. Last March, it was the finance committee that recommended NFL owners approve a proposal to increase the debt limit allowed to NFL franchises, which helped allow Los Angeles Rams owner Stan : to finance the stadium being built for the Rams and also made it easier for Jerry Richardson to sell the Carolina Panthers to David Tepper.

Hunt’s elevation to finance committee chairman drew praise from CBS Sports analyst and former Raiders CEO Amy Trask, who said he would be a “phenomenal choice” to be chairman.
