Could Lisfranc injury have WR Marquise Brown fall to Raiders at bottom of first round?

In nearly every mock draft that has come out this offseason, Marquis Brown is off the board before the Raiders pick at 24th overall. I’ve seen him as high as 12th overall and usually gone by 22nd overall. Most often he goes to the Titans at 19th overall. That may not be the case anymore.

Monday ESPN’s Tom Pelissero reported that Brown had Lis Franc foot surgery which will keep the top prospect wide receiver from participating in drills at the combine or the Oklahoma pro day and figures to have him unavailable for the offseason training for whichever team drafts him.

The 5-10, 168-pounder had 132 catches for 2413 yards and 17 touchdowns the past two seasons for the Sooners. Most draft analysts have him as the second best wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft behind Mississippi’s D.K. Metcalf.

Even though Brown is expected to be ready for training camp, the injury and surgery along with his being unavailable to show his physical abilities to NFL scouts this offseason could be enough for him to slip in the lower part of the first round where the Raiders have a couple picks at 24 and 27.

The Raiders are desperate to add talent at wide receiver and are expected to take one with one of their four picks in the top 35. Specifically, they are widely expected to try and get a receiver in the first round. That’s a smart strategy, providing there is talent there to be had.

In years past the Raiders have seen players slip a bit in the first round for reasons other than on-field talent and pounced. Two years ago, cornerback Gareon Conley slipped to them at 24th overall due to a sexual assault allegation that proved to be false. Three years ago, safety Karl Joseph was available at 14th overall due to an ACL injury he suffered during his senior season.
