The Cowboys made some coaching moves official for next season, head coach Jason Garrett will not receive early extension.

The rumors were flowing for the better part of two weeks, it's now official that Kellen Moore will be promoted to be the Cowboys new offensive coordinator.
The Cowboys made the announcement Thursday, nearly two weeks after the team mutually parted ways with former play-caller Scott Linehan.
The team also formally announced Jon Kitna as new quarterbacks coach, the role Moore held last season.
The Cowboys have been evaluating potential shifting roles on head coach Jason Garrett’s staff since Linehan’s departure. Speaking Wednesday on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones indicated that Moore could be the choice as coordinator as part of a “collaborative effort” in bringing new fresh ideas to the offense.

Kellen Moore was the leading candidate all along but he was also on the shortlist of a few other teams.
According to sources, multiple teams sought permission from the Cowboys to speak with Moore about coordinator positions but were denied. He has built a solid relationship with Prescott and has been viewed as a coach-in-waiting since a record-setting career at Boise State, where he won 50 games in four seasons.

Though it just became official, Dak Prescott has been singing Kellen Moore's praises and thinks he's the creative guy they need.
“He can be crazy creative,” Prescott said of Kellen Moore. “From the time he was a player to his time now, he sits over there, we’re watching plays and he’ll draw a play up and say, ‘Hey, this is a compliment off that.’ I mean that was the main reason I pushed for him to be the quarterback coach in the first place because I knew the intelligence he has in the game, how smart he is, how creative he can be.”

This subject is a bit of a divider with Cowboys fans as there are some who want to see what Moore can bring and some who feel they know that it’s not much. For what it’s worth, Dak really likes Moore.

Jerry Jones says he wants all the offensive voices to be heard next season.
But owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 FM on Thursday that they will lean on all the young coaches, including Moore, Kitna and offensive line coach Marc Colombo for their input and ideas in trying to bring some change and creativity to the offense.
“I want their ideas. I want their preference. I want them to yell, I want them to lay in front of the train,” Jones said. “I want them to do everything to get it implemented in what we’re doing offensively. I’ll assure that’ll be the way we handle it. It’ll be a collaborative effort.”

Everyone talks about Amari Cooper's arrival doing wonders for quarterback Dak Prescott but it was also the collective group becoming more solidified.
“Guys were doing well. I just, honestly I wasn’t comfortable,” Prescott said. “It wasn’t the same guys at the same positions, as much as it was anything. You look out there and it’s a different X than it was a play ago, it’s a different Z than it was a play ago. I think what that did is it created a little bit of uncertainty for me. More so than it was getting the No. 1, it was just getting a consistent lineup and group across the board.
“But when you have a guy like Amari and his ability to get open, the way that he studies and prepares the game, it’s second to none. That’s what makes him a No. 1 receiver.”

There will be no extension for Jason Garrett this offseason.
Much has been made about how 2019 is the last year of Jason Garrett’s contract as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. While we heard some reports and murmurings near the end of the season that the team would consider extending him over the offseason, you can put all of those talks to bed. There will be no extension per a report.

Coach will be coaching for his next contract in 2019.
“None of that is anything that I would talk about in this forum in any way, and so we won’t get there,” Jones told the Cowboys’ flagship network. “I think I’ve made clear how I feel about Jason in terms of where he is right now as far as our ability to help us win football games. I think if you look at what we’ve done over the last few years, you’ll see a pretty good winning record there. [But] it’s not enough, not enough.”

The owner would like to see more success before he commits to extend his head coach.
Jones said the delay has nothing to do with Garrett being on shaky ground and more to do with not wanting to do it days before the Super Bowl.
He said Garrett will be making an announcement soon regarding “Kellen Moore.”
“We’ve made several commitments and the reason it’s not being talked about isn’t because Jason is on shaky ground or isn’t on solid ground,” Jones said. “We’re putting together different ideas and we don’t want it to be a featured topic around the Super Bowl.” Jones was noncommittal on a contract extension for Garrett, leaving it open to him heading into the final year of his contract in a prove-it mode.But he had praise for Garrett in his ability to lead a relatively young offensive staff with Moore in his second year, Kitna in his first year and offensive line coach Marc Colombo in his second year.
“The facts are we have a coach that has a lot of experience,” Jones said. “He’s a great safety net for these young coaches.”

Is Jason Garrett a lame duck as the Cowboys head coach with no signs of an extension coming?
Garrett has one year left on his contract, a time most organizations use to hammer out an extension to avoid a lame-duck season, According to Rapoport, however, the Cowboys appear set on Garrett proving it another season.
It’s not the first time Garrett has entered a season with one year remaining on his contract. After back-to-back-to-back 8-8 seasons in his first three years as the Cowboys’ full-time coach, Garrett entered the 2014 campaign without an extension. The Cowboys proceeded to go 12-4 and win the NFC East.
