Daily Links: Who should Chargers target in free agency?

Your daily dose of Los Angeles Chargers news & notes from around the web.

NFL Mock Draft 2019 – First Round (1.0) - Raju Byfield
The Chargers will consider Jeffrey Simmons here, but ultimately decide to go with the player with less baggage, who they also happen to have rated about the same as the Mississippi defensive tackle. At 6’7 and 305 lbs, as per PFF, Tillery amassed 46 quarterback pressures and ranked second in the nation by winning 19.1 percent of his pass rush snaps, a number second in the nation behind Quinnen Williams.

Highlighting the top-10 edge defenders expected to enter free agency - Mike Johnson
In the modern, pass-happy NFL, the role of edge rusher has grown increasingly important. The premium players at the position can dictate the game on a whim, and teams will always covet a dominant edge player who can change the game on just one won pass-rushing snap.

What Does the NFL Think About Keenan Allen? - Ricky Henne
Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick: “He can do it all. So, whatever you need him to do, he can play inside, play outside, run option routes, run vertical routes, double moves (and is a) good stem route runner. Again, big hands, strong, big target, tough after the catch. It doesn’t matter where you put him, he’s a problem. He’s one of the best receivers in the league.”

How The Los Angeles Chargers Are Approaching Free Agency And The Rest Of The NFL Off-Season - Jay Paris
Free safety Adrian Phillips, a Pro Bowl selection as a special-teams player, will draw plenty of attention if dipping his toe in the free-agent waters. Same goes for linebacker Denzel Perryman, the team's best run-stopper. Although Perryman's health is seemingly a constant concern, which could have the Chargers looking elsewhere or make him more affordable to keep.

Five Chargers Named to PFF's Top 101 Players of 2018 - Hayley Elwood
Derwin James made a huge impact as a rookie, finishing his first professional season with an overall grade of 88.3, ranking seventh among safeties. James’ 18 total pressures (12 hurries, two hits, four sacks) tied for first at the position, and his average of 0.59 yards allowed per slot coverage snap ranked 14th.

However, there were bright spots. The secondary had three players named to All-Pro teams (Derwin James, Desmond King and Adrian Phillips), and Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa wrecked games as pass rushers. Offensively, Rivers turned the clock back on father time, Gordon, when healthy, and Ekeler formed a nice dynamic-duo out of the backfield and receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams had themselves nice years.
