Former Chiefs Tony Gonzalez, Johnny Robinson headed to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Including Ty Law (2006-07), three Chiefs are headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the class of 2019.

Former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonazalez and safety Johnny Robinson are headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the NFL’s class of 2019, as announced by the league on Saturday.

Gonzalez, 42, played for the Chiefs from 1997 to 2008 before finishing his career with the Atlanta Falcons from 2009 to 2013. Robinson, 80, spent his entire career with the Chiefs organization, from 1960 to 1971.

Gonzalez is the Chiefs franchise’s receiving leader with 10,940 career yards and is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, while it took Robinson 39 years and a senior candidacy to achieve the league’s highest honor.

Robinson helped the Chiefs to their only two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1969 and was a part of the Chiefs’ only Super Bowl-winning team in 1969. Robinson led the Dallas Texans/Chiefs to AFL titles in 1962, 1966 and 1969.

Former Chiefs cornerback Ty Law was also elected to the Hall of Fame as part of the league’s 2019 class. Law, 44, spent 2006 and 2007 with the Chiefs before eventually retiring after the 2009 season.

As SB Nation’s own Geoff Schwartz notes, three Chiefs mean the club is a likely candidate for the Hall of Fame game, which would mean a five-game preseason schedule for the Chiefs in the upcoming 2019-20 season.
