The Alliance of American Football kicked off on Saturday evening with a pair of games, and fans of the Seattle Seahawks who tuned in to watch the Orlando Apollos take on the Atlanta Legends saw a somewhat familiar name have a big game. Linebacker Terence Garvin signed with the Seahawks as a free agent after the 2016 season after having spent the first four seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins.
Garvin was one of the many names brought in to compete for the SAM spot that offseason, and won the camp competition, only to see that role taken away following the Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers. In fact, Garvin saw almost as many defensive snaps at WILL filling in for a concussed K.J. Wright against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Rams during six ugly quarters of Seahawks football that saw the defense surrender 69 points. Obviously, it wasn’t simply the loss of Wright during those two games that led the defense to struggle mightily, as Bobby Wagner also left the game against Jacksonville with a hamstring injury and played the game against the Rams at far less than one hundred percent.
In any case, against the minor league competition of the AAF Garvin shined brightly, recording two interceptions and recording ten tackles. On his first interception he gave a look that he would be rushing the passer before dropping into underneath coverage to pick off a pass intended for a receiver running a short curl, not that Seahawks fans have any kind of familiarity with an interception on such a route.

From that angle it is visible that it was a good play, but it doesn’t really show the full extension required of Garvin to catch the pass. From the sideline angle, the extension and difficulty of that particular play were more readily apparent.

That interception also carried a bit of historic significance, as it was the first interception in AAF history.

On his second interception he had an opportunity to run with the ball after catching it, and it will likely be a play that is far more memorable for both fans and Garvin alike.

So, while his tenure with Seattle may not have lived up to his hopes and expectations, his showing in his first ever AAF game will certainly bring him some attention.
