Four offensive prospects to watch at the NFL Combine

The Chiefs no doubt need to improve their defense in this year’s draft. But don’t sleep on the offensive possibilities, either.

The NFL Combine kicks off next week. Here are four offensive prospects we're most excited to watch.

Devin Singletary, running back

Singletary has some of the most fun tape of the entire draft class. His lateral explosion to make defenders miss is second to none. He’s exceptional in space and possesses good contact balance. How he weighs in and how he tests will be important for him. If he’s able to come in over 200 pounds and test at a high level, his stock will continue to rise.

Getting a chance to display his ability in the passing game and prove that he can be a useful asset in the area of the game would certainly help as well. We currently have a second-round grade on Singletary, and he’s firmly the No. 2 running back in this class. He would be one of the few running backs I’d be excited about the Chiefs selecting on day two.

Jace Sternberger, tight end

Most Kansas fans lament the fact that Jace Sternberger was a Jayhawk to start his college career. The Aggie tight end transferred from junior college after his departure from Lawrence and David Beaty, who had him at defensive end for a stint.

Sternberger’s potential was realized in College Station, as he displayed excellent athleticism and natural hands. He projects as a day-two tight end should be if he tests at a high level. He could be excellent value for the Chiefs on the Friday (rounds 2-3) of the draft.

Terry McLaurin, wide receiver

McLaurin was invited to the Senior Bowl in January because of his intriguing athleticism and abilities as a potential special teams ace.

He took advantage of that opportunity by parlaying it into buzz as a receiver. McLaurin caught 35 passes for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had excellent production but was Parris Campbell and younger receivers like Chris Olave somehow overshadowed him. Put on his tape and you’ll see an intriguing route runner with athletic traits. The buzz around the Senior Bowl was that McLaurin would be an elite tester at the Combine. We’re about to find out.

McLaurin should be an excellent addition to the Chiefs on day three if he’s still there. The closer we get to April, that likelihood is decreasing.

Tytus Howard, offensive tackle

Howard is unrefined technically as a prospect, but the athletic ability is an excellent baseline to work with on a project tackle. The movement skills will be on full display in drills, and the testing should impress. Howard’s measurables are great, and the physicality he shows on tape makes him an intriguing prospect. He’s still got work to do in order to be trusted at the next level, but as a late day two or early day three project, he’s well worth the investment.
