How former Jets are faring elsewhere: End of season update - Part One

It’s now time to provide a final update on how former Jets that are still in the NFL are faring with their current team. We previously kept tabs on this throughout preseason and then updated you during the bye week.

In this first installment, we’ll be looking at anyone who was on the Jets’ roster or practice squad since final cuts last year. However, we’ll be back with another installment next week to update you on less-recent Jets such as Sheldon Richardson and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

As ever, this list is intended to be exhaustive, but if we missed anyone, let us know in the comments.

  • Muhammad Wilkerson, DL, Packers

Wilkerson only recorded five tackles for the Packers before suffering a season ending ankle injury, which - according to recent reports - was actually much worse than initially reported. He hopes to rejoin the Packers for 2019, although he had only signed a one-year deal.

  • Demario Davis, LB, Saints

Davis had a tremendous season, leading the Saints to the playoffs as he racked up 110 tackles, five sacks, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Playing in the postseason for the first time in his career, Davis racked up 22 tackles and an interception in two games as the Saints narrowly missed out on a place in the Super Bowl.

  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Jaguars

The Jags and Seferian-Jenkins are reportedly parting ways after a disappointing year saw him catch 11 passes for just 90 yards and a touchdown. He only played five games before suffering a season-ending core muscle injury.

  • Chandler Catanzaro, K, Bucs

Jason Myers was obviously an upgrade over Catanzaro for the Jets as the veteran was released by the Bucs after missing four field goals and four extra points in his nine games with them. However, he got another shot with Carolina late in the season, missing just one of his 13 kicks in four games with them. His 59-yard game winner in overtime was a high point of his Bucs tenure.

  • Cairo Santos, K, Bucs

Santos was Catanzaro’s replacement for the Bucs having earlier played in two games as an injury replacement for the Rams, including one where he made a game-winning field goal. In seven games with the Bucs, Santos missed three field goals but was perfect on extra points.

  • Jeremy Kerley, WR, Bills

Despite being an opening day starter, Kerley hasn’t been on a team since mid-September and his career might be over as he enters his thirties. Kerley caught two short passes in the first game of the year before being cut.

  • Julian Stanford, LB, Bills

Stanford remains under contract after a season where he mostly played on special teams in Buffalo. He ended the year with 15 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass defensed, having started one game and played a total of 89 defensive snaps, 83 of which came in a two-game span in the middle of the year.

  • Marcus Murphy, RB/KR/PR, Bills

Murphy ended the year on injured reserve but made some solid contributions for Buffalo as he rushed for 250 yards at an average of 4.8 per carry, caught 11 passes and averaged 25 yards per kickoff return, including one of 49 yards.

  • Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Saints

Bridgewater could be highly sought-after in the free agent market after backing up Drew Brees all year. He didn’t really get a chance to play until the final game of the regular season, during which he completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

  • Chad Hansen, WR, Broncos/Titans/Patriots

Hansen has bounced around the league since his release from the Jets, but didn’t play in 2018. He spent time with New England and Tennessee before landing on Denver’s practice squad and signing a futures deal with them after the season.

  • Ardarius Stewart, WR, Raiders/Washington

After being released by the Jets, Stewart spent two weeks on the Raiders’ practice squad and then landed on Washington’s practice squad for the final week of the regular season. They signed him to a futures deal after the season, only to release him again a week later, so he’s currently without a team.

  • Jason Vander Laan, TE, Panthers

Vander Laan spent most of the year on the Panthers’ practice squad since final cuts, but was activated in December - although he didn’t play - and remains under contract for 2019.

  • Bucky Hodges, TE, Steelers

Hodges spent the entire year on the Steelers’ practice squad and was signed to a futures deal after the season.

  • Jeremy Langford, RB, Dolphins/Cardinals

After having been released from Miami’s practice squad, Langford signed for the Cardinals’ practice squad and ended up on the active roster by the end of the season. He rushed for 25 yards on nine carries in his only appearance.

  • Christian Hackenberg, QB, Raiders/Eagles/Bengals

As you’re probably aware, Hackenberg is currently playing in the AAF after having spells with three other NFL teams since leaving the Jets.

  • Wesley Johnson, OL, Dolphins

Johnson is out of contract in Miami after having been signed for a reserve role, within which he played just 26 snaps, including just one in the second half of the season.

  • Travis Swanson, C, Dolphins

Swanson made more of an impact than Johnson, starting the last 11 games at center. He was also only on a one-year deal though. Swanson was okay in the running game and didn’t have any penalties, but surrendered four sacks in pass protection.

  • Bryce Petty, QB, Dolphins

Petty was without a team all season after being released from injured reserve in September following a preseason injury.

  • Kony Ealy, DL, Raiders

Ealy is out of contract having been signed, released and then re-signed by the Raiders. He ended up with two tackles, three pressures and three missed tackles in three games.

  • Damore’ea Stringfellow, WR, Titans/Seahawks

Stringfellow was signed to Tennessee’s practice squad in September but was released two days later, then had a stint on the Seahawks’ practice squad in December. This time he lasted just a week. He’s now in the AAF.

  • Jojo Natson, WR/KR/PR, Rams

Natson was the only former Jet to play in this year’s Super Bowl, at the end of a season that saw him play just one offensive snap. He averaged 19 yards per kickoff return and 10 yards per punt return, with a long of 60 yards, but had a costly muff against the Eagles in December.

  • Kalif Raymond, WR/KR/PR, Giants

Raymond had brief stints on the practice squads for the Titans and Giants during the season before re-signing with the Titans’ practice squad late in the year. He ended up getting a futures deal at the end of the season.

  • Nico Falah, C, Denver

Falah was poached from the Jets’ practice squad but he didn’t see any action for the Broncos. He remains under contract for the upcoming season.

  • Juston Burris, CB, Browns

Burris was also poached from the Jets’ practice squad but in four games with Cleveland he was essentially just a special teamer, recording two tackles. He’s a pending restricted free agent.

  • Michael Hunter, CB, Bills/Texans/Giants

Having spent a few weeks on Buffalo’s practice squad and signed for Tennessee’s practice squad late in the season, Hunter signed a futures deal with the Giants once the season was over.

  • Gino Gradkowski, C, Broncos

Gradkowski is a pending free agent after having only played 17 snaps with Denver, all of which came in the final game of the season.

  • Travaris Cadet, RB, Panthers

Cadet is also a pending free agent having signed a one-year deal in November. His 12 touches generated just 22 yards in his only game of the season.

  • Anthony Johnson, DL, Colts

Johnson is another player who is now in the AAF. He didn’t find another team after being released from the Colts’ injured reserve list in September following a preseason injury.

  • Marcus Williams, DB, Bucs/Bears

Williams played a couple of games with Tampa earlier in the year, recording three tackles. However, he was placed on injured reserve and released shortly after. The Bears then signed him in December until the end of the season and he had one tackle in three games with them in a mostly-special teams role.

  • Will Tye, TE, Patriots/Eagles

After failing to make New England’s roster, Tye signed with the Eagles’ practice squad in November and got a futures deal at the end of the season.

  • Terrelle Pryor, WR, Bills

Pryor caught two passes for 17 yards in his two games with the Bills but then was released and didn’t manage to find work with another team.

  • Deon Simon, NT, Titans/Packers

Simon signed with the Packers’ practice squad and received a futures deal at the end of the season, having also spent time on the Titans’ practice squad.

  • Kevin Minter, LB, Bucs

Minter is a pending free agent having been signed twice by the Bucs during the season. He had 10 tackles in five games for them, including one sack.

  • Xavier Coleman, CB, Bills

Coleman spent the last month and a half of the season the Bills’ practice squad but didn’t re-sign with them and is currently in the AAF.

  • Dimitri Flowers, FB, Jaguars

After initially spending just one day on their practice squad before being released, Flowers rejoined their practice squad in December and was promoted to the active roster before the final game, although he did not play. He is an exclusive rights free agent, so should be back with the team for camp.

  • Antonio Garcia, T, Colts

Garcia signed to the Colts’ practice squad and was given a futures deal at the end of the season.

  • Terrell Sinkfield, CB, Raiders

Sinkfield spent a week on the Raiders’ practice squad but ended up back in the CFL after he was released.

  • Bruce Carter, LB, Falcons

Carter just re-signed with Atlanta having originally signed with them in September. He had 21 tackles in 11 games for them in 2018, playing a total of 78 defensive snaps in a reserve role.

  • Jeremy Cash, S/LB, Cardinals

Cash signed for the Cardinals in March but suffered a season-ending knee injury in preseason. He’s a pending restricted free agent.

  • Ibraheim Campbell, S, Packers

Campbell played just one defensive snap as a Jet before being released, but saw more action in Green Bay where he had 18 tackles in three games, including one start. However, he landed on injured reserve after that and is now out of contract.

  • Spencer Long, C, Bills

Finally, it was announced a few days ago that Long has signed a three-year deal with the Bills after an injury-plagued year as the Jets’ starting center.
