The Saints will need to look for another safety.
There have been many pundits speculating as to how the New Orleans Saints will get additional cap space to be players in free agency. Well, the Saints have found one way:
The #Saints are releasing S Kurt Coleman, source says. The team will keep the door open to his potential return later but he was due $5.5m in total compensation this season and that figure was too high for them.

This will unfortunately go in the books as another free agency “bust” of Mickey Loomis and the Saints front office. Fortunately, the Saints have hit on most of their draft picks the past two seasons, which has meant the Saints have had more flexibility (or at least more than they’ve had in the recent past) in missing in free agency. The days of Jairus Byrd’s signing crippling the entire offseason are hopefully in the rearview mirror.
The Saints will obviously need to find a way to address the safety position now that Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams are the only safeties currently on the roster.
It’s possible the Saints bring Kurt Coleman back in 2018 any way, but not as his $6 million dollar price tag.
