Lynch, Shanahan to speak at combine Wednesday, Thursday

We now know when the two will be speaking to the assembled media at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine.

The 2019 NFL Scouting Combine gets underway next Tuesday with the arrival of offensive linemen, running backs, and special teams players. Their arrival brings with it a whole lot of attention paid to college kids running various drills in hopes of showcasing their talents for NFL teams. It also means head coaches and general managers will be available for interviews with the national media.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are scheduled to address the national media on Wednesday, and Thursday respectively. Shanahan will speak Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. PT, and Lynch will speak Thursday at 8:45 a.m. Lynch is the second to last person speaking, with Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll closing things out on Thursday.

If you’re interested in some other notable coaches and GMs, Oakland Raiders GM Mike Mayock is kicking things off on Wednesday at 6 a.m. Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio is speaking at 6:30 a.m. and new Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is there at 7:30 a.m. On Thursday, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden kicks things off at 6 a.m., followed by Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay at 6:15 a.m.

A year ago, the press conferences were wide-ranging (Shanahan transcript, Lynch transcript). The team had signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a contract extension, so they were not looking for a quarterback in the draft. However, they still discussed plenty about what Garoppolo meant to the team. We can expect some Garoppolo questions this year related to his rehab, but it will not be an extensive discussion. I’m curious to hear what Shanahan and Lynch have to say about Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard. Beyond that, we’ll get plenty of talk about edge rushers and the defensive secondary, and potentially a question or two about their new chief of the medical and training staff.

NFL Network will be broadcasting portions of the press conferences, and we will likely be able to find a stream for Lynch and Shanahan as well. The 49ers usually provide a transcript for each as well, so we’ll keep an eye out for that.
