Longtime NFL offensive lineman Matt Slauson announced his retirement from the NFL after the 2018 season, but he had the opportunity to stay involved. Slauson said Sunday that he had the chance to join the Indianapolis Colts coaching staff after he decided to stop playing, but at least for the moment, he prefers to spend time with his family. Slauson was only a Colt for a year, so it’s pretty clear that they thought highly of him if they were willing to immediately put him on the coaching staff. It may well have been things like gutting through major injuries that endeared him. The former offensive lineman was widely respected around the league, so he’ll probably get another crack at coaching when he’s ready for it.
