The New York Giants don’t have very many good players on offense right now, but that hasn’t stopped many from speculating that the team is more likely than not to trade receiver Odell Beckham, Jr in the first year of the five-year, $90 million extension they signed him to last fall. Yes, in the first year of that deal.
It looks like a veeeeeery real possibility for the Giants to trade OBJ pic.twitter.com/UaDLgLe3Wr

There are rumors circulating that the New England Patriots had already attempted to make a trade for Beckham last year. He’d also fit the mold as the type of player the Seattle Seahawks would make a big move for, in some ways. He’s 26, making him a superstar in his prime just like Percy Harvin in 2013 and the signing of Sidney Rice in 2011. Like those receivers, he also has an injury history however.
Beckham played in 12 games last season, catching 77 passes for 1,052 yards while playing with Eli Manning. He had 35 touchdowns over his first three seasons and there’s a good argument that Beckham is the best receiver in the NFL when healthy. On the other hand, he has base salaries of $16.75 million in 2019, $14 million in 2020, and $14.5 million in 2021, with two more years after that. Seattle would need to consider a corresponding move like releasing Doug Baldwin to open up space for a player like Beckham.
The Seahawks also only have four draft picks in 2019 so moving a first rounder for Beckham and not picking until round three also has major consequences for them in April, and takes away the opportunity to trade down for more picks. Trading for Beckham is not only unlikely, it’s probably undesirable for the most part. Even if he is the greatest receiver in the game and only 26.
