Ravens OC: Dangers of Jackson running are ‘overrated’ - Kevin Patra
Greg Roman, who takes over a Baltimore Ravens offense thrusting its weight fully behind run-first signal-caller Lamar Jackson, thinks the criticism of QBs getting hurt while running is overblown.
“I think it’s a little overrated, the whole danger thing,” Roman said this week, via The Baltimore Sun. “Why? Because, and this is empirical data here, over the years, you kind of realize that when a quarterback decides to run, he’s in control. So now [if] he wants to slide, he can slide. If he wants to dive, he can dive, get out of bounds, all of those different things. He can get down, declare himself down.
”A lot of the time, the situations that [have] more danger are when he doesn’t see what’s coming -- my eyes are downfield, I’m standing stationary from the pocket, somebody is hitting me from the blind side. My experience, and I kind of learned this, is that when the quarterback takes the ball and starts to run, there’s not a lot of danger involved in that relative to other situations.”
There is clear logic in Roman’s view. The key will be Lamar Jackson making decisions to avoid hits when he scrambles.
Ravens, CB Tavon Young agree to 3-year extension - Jamison Hensley
The deal, which has a max value of $29 million and will make Young the NFL’s highest-paid nickelback, will be announced at a news conference Friday, sources told ESPN.
The extension comes just a few weeks after new Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said it would be a priority to retain the team’s young talent before players reach free agency.
Between the trade of Joe Flacco and the early contract extension for the ascending slot corner, DeCosta is off to a fast start as general manager.

PREDICTING COMBINE STANDOUTS - Joe Marino
DK is a Freak
He’s training at most the elite training facility on the planet for NFL Combine pre. His father Terrence Metcalf, his uncle Eric Metcalf and Grandfather Terry Metcalf, each played in the NFL. The three combined to play 27 seasons in the NFL. I find it hard to believe that DK is doing anything to negatively impact his status as an NFL prospect or put doubt into the minds of NFL decision makers regarding his physique.
Metcalf is listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. He is probably going to check in right around that. We’ve had some sources tell us he is going to challenge for a sub 4.40 40-yard dash and 40-inch vertical.
Marino compares D.K. Metcalf’s measurables to Calvin Johnson.
2019 NFL mock draft 1.0: Three QBs in Round 1 - Charley Casserly
22. Baltimore - A.J. Brown, WR
School: Mississippi | Year: Junior
The Ravens will need to add weapons for Lamar Jackson.
Brown may not be the best fit for the Ravens, he was primarily a slot receiver at Ole Miss and does not excel at gaining yards after the catch. A.J. is Casserly’s only first round receiver in this mock.
