The 29-year old has not made a decision about his future, though.
One of the New England Patriots’ biggest storylines heading into the offseason once again appears to be the future of tight end Rob Gronkowski. Last year, the future Hall of Famer already weighed his options before ultimately returning to the club and playing a key role in helping the Patriots secure their sixth Super Bowl title. One up-and-down season later, however, Gronkowski is again expected to at least entertain the thought of retiring.
The 29-year old has not made any definitive decision as of yet but he has visited the team’s facilities at Gillette Stadium “multiple times” since the Super Bowl two weeks ago, according to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss. Of course, as Reiss was also quick to point out, Gronkowski coming to the Patriots’ stadium might have more to do with treatment and rehabilitation than any plans as to whether he returns in 2019 or not.
After all, Gronkowski dealt with ankle and back injuries for most of 2018 and hurt his thigh during the Patriots’ 13-3 title game victory over the Los Angeles Rams. And with him still under contract, he has access to the club’s facilities to treat any ailments. That being said, Reiss also notes that he views Gronkowski’s time at Gillette Stadium as “a reflection of his being in a good place with how the season ended, both team-wise and personally.”
And even though this may not sway his decision in any one way or the other, it certainly is encouraging to see at this point in time.
