Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports Madison could join the Chiefs.
Sam Madison could join the Kansas City Chiefs defensive staff as an assistant in the secondary, per a report from Nate Taylor of The Athletic in Kansas City. Taylor calls Madison “a leading candidate”
On this snowy day, according to multiple sources, Sam Madison is a leading candidate to join Steve Spagnuolo’s staff as an assistant in the secondary. Madison was a cornerback under Spagnuolo when the Giants won the 2007 Super Bowl. He could replace Emmitt Thomas.

Madison, 44, is a former NFL cornerback who played for both the Miami Dolphins (1997-2005) and the New York Giants (2006-08). As Taylor notes, Madison was a member of the 2007 Giants who knocked off the previously-undefeated New England Patriots in that year’s Super Bowl.
Madison “tried his hand at coaching” with Tom Coughlin’s staff back in the summer of 2013.
“Sam wants to coach,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said, per NJ.com, at the time. “For us, I think it’s a win-win situation. We can help him in regard to giving him a chance to coach and be with us and for people to observe that he’s a good coaching at this level.
“Sam is good medicine. Sam was liked as a player when he was here with us. He was working and coaching and did a nice job in that capacity. He did a good job with all the young corners then and the guys seem to respond and like that fact that he’s here now.”
It looks like Madison most recently coached at the high school level with the St. Thomas Aquinas High School football team in Florida in 2017. Madison and former Dolphins player Jason Taylor had sons on the team.
As a player, Madison was a four-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He would presumably report to soon-to-be defensive backs coach Dave Merritt with the Chiefs when they finally make their new staff official.
