Should Raiders be interested in signing newly released pass rusher Vinny Curry?

It is always interesting seeing what talented players get cut from their teams once the dust settles around the previous season, and this year there are quite a few potential cap casualties. Starting off the cuts for 2019 is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have the first intriguing cap casualty cut of the off-season with Vinny Curry. Tampa has officially released the 30 year old pass rushing defensive end.

Considering the $8 million dollars of cap space relief Tampa got in this move, along with the fact that he turned down a pay cut to stay with the team makes this move not surprising at all. In fact, Vinny Curry’s name was already included in a previous Silver & Black Pride article pointing him out as a potential cap casualty earlier this off-season. Now the question is, should the Raiders be interested in the shiny new free agent?

Tampa only had Curry on their team for one year after he spent the first 6 years of his career as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, including in 2017 when he won a Super Bowl ring in Philly. The Bucs had signed him to a 3 year deal before last season but now have cut him after just the one season where he played in 12 games, starting 7 of them. The disappointing season for Curry never really got off the ground in his new locale, he finished the season with 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He did also add 5 TFL and 7 QB hits in 2018 as well.

The Raiders certainly have a need for anybody that can get into the back field though, and Curry did have the one very good year back in 2014 where he managed to get 9 sacks. However, he has not even come close to matching that production in the years since then with his highest sack total in a season after that being 3.5.

What do you think, should the Raiders consider adding the 7 year vet? Curry’s career totals in his 7 year career give him 24.5 sacks with an impressive 70 QB hits so he is certainly somebody to consider adding to help fix the ridiculously woeful pass rush the Raiders had in 2018. They need to build up depth and add at least one more starter, so is Vinny Curry a player you think the Raiders should add?
