Should Raiders trade for Dolphins CB Xavien Howard?

Possessing three-first round picks in a single NFL draft creates a ton of possibilities. The Oakland Raiders could use their three picks to select top talent in the 2019 NFL draft, use them to trade up or down, or use them as bargaining chips to trade for established NFL talent.

In Oakland’s case, it could use a lot of help in the cornerback room, which boasts just one promising player in Gareon Conley. As such, ESPN brought up a possible trade scenario on Friday that would involve the Raiders sending their 24th overall pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for Xavien Howard.

Howard is just 25 years old and is coming off one of his best seasons. He tallied seven interceptions (one against Derek Carr) despite missing four games. At the season’s end, Pro Football Focus had him ranked as the 19th best cornerback in 2018.

Outside of his play on the field, Howard would come as a steal contract-wise during his first season as a Raider. He is due less than $2 million in 2019, per Spotrac, however he will be up for a major contract extension in 2020 that could become costly.

Spotrac predicts that Howard’s market value should land him a contract in the neighborhood of 5 years, $67.6 million.

At $13.5 million per season, Howard would be a lot more costly than drafting a cornerback with the 24th pick, but then again there is no guarantee that pick will be as good as Howard.

Raider Nation, what do you think about ESPN’s trade scenario? Should Oakland part ways with its 24th overall pick to bring Howard in?
