Texans release former Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas

Tough luck for the former Denver Broncos wide receiver.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the Houston Texans are expected to release former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas sometime today according to sources.

Back in late October, the Broncos traded longtime wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans for a 4th round selection in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft. It was a sign that the Broncos who were in a tailspin at the time were looking ahead to the future while the Texans were looking ahead to the postseason.

Unfortunately for the Texans and Thomas, Thomas suffered a torn Achilles in week 16 of the season and is now facing a long recovery process this offseason while also now looking for a new team to play for in 2019.

Thomas, the former first-round pick by the Broncos played 9 total seasons for the Broncos and put up some impressive numbers during that span. He totaled 665 receptions for 9,055 yards, and 60 touchdowns during that span. He had multiple memorable plays during that span, but none bigger than his 80-yard walk off touchdown reception against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs.

For the Texans, Thomas totaled 23 receptions and 2 touchdowns in a total of 7 games with the team.

As for a potential reunion between Thomas and the Broncos, I would assume it’s not in the cards. Thomas is 31 years old, coming off his second Achilles injury, and Thomas didn’t seem all too thrilled with the Broncos after being traded. So I would imagine that both sides will continue going their separate ways.

Update:

The Texans have announced that they have officially released wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
