Texans to release WR Demaryius Thomas

The Demaryius Thomas era in Houston is over.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the Texans will cut WR Demaryius Thomas.

Thomas’s Texans tenure lasted just seven games as the team acquired right before the NFL Trade Deadline last October.

In those seven games, Thomas caught 23 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

Thomas tore his Achilles in Week 16 against the Eagles, and when he was carted off the field, it felt like the end. Today confirmed that the ending was true.

However, the reasoning behind Thomas’s release might not fully be his injury.

Thomas turned 31 on Christmas and was due $14 million as a base salary for 2019, something the Texans simply cannot afford for a receiver who is not named DeAndre Hopkins.

With the move, the Texans open up a lot of potential cap space to attract other free agents both new and in-house.
