Top Ten Plays of the 2018 Season, as chosen by Colts Nation

The 2018-2019 Indianapolis Colts season began in a way that most Colts fans weren’t expecting. After falling into a 1-5 hole, the Colts rallied in Week 7 to beat down the Bills, and thereafter won all but one game for the rest of the season. With the help of Colts Nation, I put together a list of the top ten plays of the season.

10. Andrew Luck’s first touchdown since 2016

Though this game was only preseason, it was the first time quarterback Andrew Luck had thrown a touchdown since 2016. After over 600 days of absence, his first touchdown to tight end Eric Ebron holds a special place in the hearts of Colts fans. It was a long awaited emotional moment.

9. Week 16 comeback vs. New York Giants

In the weeks leading up to the playoffs, the Colts buckled down and won nine of their final ten games. The Giants gave the Colts a run for their money and challenged Indy’s secondary significantly, but thanks to a 55-yard reception by receiver TY Hilton late in the second quarter and a one-yard touchdown by Chester Rodgers in the final seconds of the game, the Colts pulled through for a 28-27 victory.

8. Darius Leonard’s forced fumble vs. Oakland

We couldn’t make a top ten list without mentioning The Maniac at least once. In week eight at Oakland, rookie linebacker Darius Leonard earned his nickname by forcing a clutch fumble on Raiders running back Doug Martin. The fumble set up running back Marlon Mack’s second touchdown of the day, giving the Colts consecutive wins for the first time in three years.

This game also marked kicker Adam Vinatieri’s achievement of the all-time scoring mark. You can’t tell us he’s not the GOAT.

7. Eric Ebron’s 53-yard touchdown vs. Jacksonville

Ebron went absolutely nuts against Jacksonville in week ten. He charted three touchdowns in the game to give the Colts a 29-26 edge over the Jaguars.

6. Mo Alie-Cox’s crazy TD

Indy’s tight end recorded his first career touchdown in an insane one-handed grab in the first drive of the game against Oakland. Can you tell this guy played college basketball?

5. Quenton Nelson vs. Jadeveon Clowney

My personal favorite from this season was in the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Texans in which rookie guard Quenton Nelson absolutely bulldozed Texans’ superstar defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney. The block went viral and was just one of the rookie’s many impressive plays that helped him become a First Team All-Pro.

4. Luck to Rogers vs. Miami

In week 12, Andrew Luck escaped pressure in the pocket to find receiver Chester Rogers 34 yards downfield to set up a field goal and beat Miami. Just another clutch play that proves what we all know: Andrew Luck can always beat the odds and come back.

3. Marlon Mack running wild against Houston

An extension of No. 6, the Colts put on a phenomenal performance to defeat the Houston Texans 21-7 in the wild card matchup. The Colts smashed Houston’s defense with the help of running back Marlon Mack’s 148-yard rushing day. Indy’s offensive line protected Luck and led the way for a lot of big plays from Mack that left the Texans completely stunned.

2. Shutout vs. Dallas

Do I really even need to expand on this? The Colts held the red-hot Cowboys to zero points, the first time they’d been shut out since 2003. Indianapolis capitalized on every one of Dallas’ mistakes and controlled the game from beginning to end.

1. Darius Leonard’s interception to clinch the playoffs

This was by far the favorite of Colts Nation - The Maniac picking off Blaine Gabbert’s pass with 1:50 remaining in the game to put a cap on the the Titans final drive and clinch a Colts playoff berth for the first time in three years.

It was one hell of a season and the Colts are just getting started. Thank you to all the faithful fans who replied to my tweet to help put together this list, Colts Nation is the best family in the league. GO BLUE!
