Seattle Seahawks twin brothers Shaquill Griffin and Shaquem Griffin recently did a little Madden NFL challenge, but with a twist.
Instead of playing Madden NFL 19, the Griffins went way back. They pulled out John Madden Football ‘93 on the Super Nintendo! It was a Seahawks vs. Seahawks mirror match at the Kingdome. To top it all off? Since there’s no actual extensive play-by-play man in those early video games, the solution was to have the great Steve Raible provide commentary on this brother vs. brother battle.
You can watch the video here, and I’ve taken the liberty of providing an extensive recap because this is a game involving the Seahawks, so it’s only fair I treat it with importance!
Shaquill was very aggressive, going for a fake punt on 4th and 7 that caught Shaquem’s defense off guard. He didn’t score on that drive due to an interception near the goal line, but the bad field position led to Shaquem giving up a safety on a botched run play. Shaquill followed up with a touchdown to take a 9-0 lead. Shaquem closed the deficit to 9-7 with a touchdown drive just before halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Shaquem took the lead after capitalizing on an interception and scoring a TD off the short field. Shaquem picked off Shaquill again and had a chance to put the game away, but Shaquill stayed alive with a pick at the goal line on a play that was reminiscent of the Malco——
Sorry everyone, technical difficulties.
With the score 14-9 Shaquem, and the seconds ticking away, Shaquill drove inside the 30-yard line and had one last shot at victory. Shaquem dropped nine guys into coverage, but Shaquill obviously hit the wrong button because no sane person dials up a screen with no time left and a ton of yards to go. Game, set, and match. Shaquem Griffin topples Shaquill Griffin in a thriller.
This was really entertaining and I hope you enjoyed it. We can only hope Shaquill and Shaquem get as many real-life interceptions next season as they managed in this game.
