Here are those players whose stock is experiencing a bull market
With the 2019 NFL Combine now finished and done with, it’s time to examine which players managed to get some good word-of-mouth going with their performances in the drills. Scouts and general managers are rarely surprised if the top prospects perform well at the combine (that’s usually how they get considered among the best players in the country after all), that’s why it’s the middle- and late-round players who end up surprising people. Here are a handful of prospects who should leave Indianapolis proud of the way they performed.
RB Ryquell Armstead (Temple)
Temple has a great track record of producing pro-ready players, but former Owls are rarely considered to be elite athletes. Not so for the 5’11, 220-pound Armstead. With the second-fastest 40-time and top-six finishes in the 3-cone and shuttle, the running back proved that he’s more than just a power guy: He has the talent to run over, around and through defenders. It wasn’t just his elite athleticism either—his performance in the catching drills was just as encouraging to see.
OT Yosh Nijman (Virginia Tech)
Already a winner after measuring in at 6’7” and 324 lbs. with 34-inch arms, Nijman followed that up with an impressive showing in the few events he chose to participate in. Placing top-five in the broad jump and second in the shuttle, the former senior has the look of a developmental right tackle in the NFL. In a league thirsting for decent offensive tackle play, it appears that Nijman can look forward to being selected in the fourth or fifth round.
TE Foster Moreau (LSU)
Most analysts knew that Moreau is the position’s most ferocious blocker, but it’s clear few expected the former LSU Tiger to ball out during his workouts as much as he did. Finishing in the top-five in all but one event and winning the shuttle drill, Moreau will now be firmly in the mix for being drafted during the third round, should his pro day go off without a hitch.
DT Trysten Hill (UCF)
Virtually unknown by the general public before this past weekend, Hill wasn’t even a starter this past season at Central Florida. That situation appears to have changed, thanks to his top-notch showings in not only the timed events, but also the on-field defensive linemen drills. Several times, the NFL Network commentators made sure to call out how smooth and nimble Hill was in the drills.
WR Parris Campbell (Ohio State)
Unlike Hill, everyone knew Campbell was going to be exceptional in the timed events. Similar to Hill, though, where Campbell really helped himself was in the field drills. Not particularly known for his hands, the former Buckeye showed off his mitts attempting to corral wayward passes from the sub-par group of quarterbacks. His performance in the gauntlet drill was one of the best among the group of assembled wideouts. The former senior has the look of an instant starter.
