2019 NFL Scouting Combine measurements: QB Kyler Murray taller than expected

In the lead-up to the draft, Kyler Murray’s height seemed to be different depending on who you asked. The Heisman Trophy winner was listed at 5-9 7/8 in college, which led to some to round down to 5-9. I had even heard some people suggesting he was 5-8.

That’s what happens when you’re not the prototypically QB size of 6-2 and above. You get labeled a shrimp and people get a little crazy about it.

Jon Gruden was, of course, asked this morning about the size concerns with regard to Murray.

“I don’t know what the physical concerns are,” said Gruden. “Are you talking about the height? I think that’s been proven to not be as much a factor as maybe it was years ago. If you ask Russell Wilson or [Drew] Brees, or the kid in Cleveland, I don’t know that it’s a true impact on the position or the performance.”

Thursday was the moment of truth for Murray and the rest of the QB class. He stepped to the measuring stick and....He’s over 5-10.

Literally he measured like 2/10 of an inch taller than he was listed in college, but that’s kind of a big deal. At least it is to some. It just looks a lot better to have those double digits there. He’s now at least considered an average height man, even if he’s not an average height for a QB.

Here are all the measurements for the QB’s in this year’s scouting combine:
