Could Bears pluck another top AFC pass rusher? | The Times
It’s a longshot, though, with the Bears currently sitting with less than $11 million in cap room only nine days from the start of the new league year after already using likely their two biggest cost-saving bullets: releasing Dion Sims and restructuring Kyle Long’s contract. It’s likely the Bears already inquired with the Chiefs regarding Houston’s availability. The biggest difference in light of this report is that it wouldn’t require draft capital — now or later — to acquire Houston.
49ers’ plans at edge rusher impacted by how teams use franchise tag | NBC Sports
There are still a few intriguing free-agent pass rushers available. Chiefs veteran pass rusher Justin Houston, 30, is reportedly on the trade market or could be released. The four-time Pro Bowl player recorded a league-high 22 sacks in 2014. After two injury-plagued seasons, Houston recorded at least nine in each of the last two seasons.
Houston’s expected availability gives the 49ers -- and other teams in need of a pass rush -- another option on the veteran market.
Kansas City Chiefs: Don’t Rely on Eric Berry, Draft a Safety | Bleacher Report
Kansas City drafted Armani Watts in the fourth round last year. This time around, general manager Brett Veach should consider an early choice such as Nasir Adderley or Deionte Thompson if he falls to the second round because of his recent wrist surgery.
Patriots by Position: Things are looking solid at cornerback | Providence Journal
CORNERBACK
Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Eric Rowe, Jonathan Jones, Keion Crossen, Duke Dawson
Contract situation: The Patriots are in a solid spot at the cornerback position. They return one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and have some youth behind him.
Jones turned into a valuable slot corner for the Patriots. He finished the season with a career-high three interceptions. In the playoffs, he was outstanding. Jones shut down Tyreek Hill in the AFC Championship Game. In Super Bowl LIII, he even played some safety.
Crossen made the Patriots 53-man roster as a seventh-round pick. He instantly became a core special-teamer, but played some defense — 39 snaps as well as 14 snaps in the playoffs. He even helped Jones cover Hill in the AFC Championship Game.
Fantasy football stats: Kansas City Chiefs best of the last decade | Pro Football Focus
QUARTERBACK
Patrick Mahomes, 2018
(383-580 passing, 5,097 passing yards, 50 TD, 12 INT, 272 rushing yards, 2 TD, 417.1 fantasy points, QB1)
Alex Smith drew glowing reviews for his 2017, when he finished as QB4 and set numerous personal records. It was a great year. It was also a solid 120-plus points behind what Mahomes just did in winning the MVP and setting the all-time record for QB fantasy points. Will Mahomes ever have that sort of season again? Probably not. Because no one reasonably can. That doesn’t diminish whatever Mahomes does with the rest of his career.
The Giants could take the Patrick Mahomes approach with Dwayne Haskins | SB Nation
Although Haskins’ arm strength might not be quite as good as Mahomes’, he showed on Saturday during combine workouts that it’s plenty strong. The ball comes out of Haskins’ hand with easy velocity, and he eases it in on shorter passes. On his deeper throws, Haskins showed he can put the ball over the top and let a receiver get under it consistently. His footwork, which is one of his bigger flaws, looked good too as he was often quick into his stance.

Round 3 – No. 92 overall-Andy Isabella WR UMASS-102 catches 1,698 yards and 13 touchdowns with blazing speed. Spent first 3 picks on defense and Mahomes needs weapons.

Lindstrom, an Overland Park Republican, currently serves as board chairman for the Kansas Turnpike Authority and as a member of Johnson County Community College’s Board of Trustees. He said he would decide within the next 90 days whether to join the Senate race in Kansas.

NFL Trade Rumors: Antonio Brown Doesn’t Interest Broncos; ‘Not Worth the Price’ | Bleacher Report
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday the Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans were showing the most interest in Brown. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport followed up Monday to report the Broncos, Raiders and Arizona Cardinals were “among the teams who have appeared the most intrigued.”
The Broncos have nearly $34.5 million in available salary-cap space this offseason, according to Over the Cap. But even if they cut costs elsewhere, Brown’s $22.165 million cap hit would limit what they could do in free agency.
Texans franchise tag star pass-rusher Clowney | ESPN
The Texans have used their franchise tag on defensive end/outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, the team announced Monday.
“Today, we have placed the franchise tag on Jadeveon Clowney, but our goal is to continue to work with his representation on a long-term contract,” Texans general manager Brian Gaine said in a statement. “This gives us both an opportunity to continue to do so.”
Cowboys franchise tag DE DeMarcus Lawrence | NFL
The Dallas Cowboys are placing the franchise tag on defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per a source. The team later made the news official.
Whether Lawrence signs the tag remains to be seen. This is the second straight year Dallas has slapped the tag on Lawrence, and the defensive end previously has intimated that he does not intend to sign the tender.

Seattle slapped the tag on its improving defensive end Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Good Morning Football’s Peter Schrager reported, per sources. The Seahawks later announced the tag was official.

“I don’t have any interest in expanding replay,” Gruden told reporters. “I have strong interest in eliminating replay, but that’s a story for another day.”

The 14 winners and 5 losers who changed their draft stock at the NFL Combine | SB Nation
Winner: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Williams is considered to be one of the players in the mix to be the No. 1 pick in April, and he looked the part Sunday with an incredible 40-yard dash.
His 10-yard split of 1.69 seconds was faster than several of the best defensive tackle draft prospects of the last decade — including Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, J.J. Watt, and Cameron Jordan.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that three teams have the most interest in the four-time All-Pro—including two members of the AFC West, the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos.
Andy Reid on developing an MVP, Dee Ford and Justin Houston
When it came to the questions about Dee Ford, Justin Houston and the salary cap, Reid answered as he usually does—by explaining that topic is the business of Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and his “capologists.”
Veach works very closely with two individuals named Chris Shea and Brandt Tilis at this time of year to figure out Kansas City’s ideal cap situation.
“They beat this thing up on where you can put money here or there, and both of those guys fit in,” Reid said of the trio. “[Ford] is a free agent, the [Houston’s] got a big number. Both of them are like my two favorite guys. I’ve loved coaching them and I hope I’m still coaching them, but if I don’t, we also understand that.
