Browns one of several teams linked to five-year veteran most noted for being consistently inconsistent.
The Cleveland Browns have been quiet during Monday’s legal tampering period of free agency, but that doesn’t mean they are not checking out of the office early.
According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the Browns are one of several teams taking an interest in free agency cornerback Bradley Roby:

Roby was a first-round selection by the Denver Broncos in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He has spent his entire NFL career with the Broncos, making 29 starts - including 15 last season. Roby has seven career interceptions (two of which he returned for touchdowns in 2016), to go along with 238 tackles and three sacks.
Denver elevated Roby to the starter’s role last season after trading Aquib Talib in the offseason, and Roby responded with a season where he didn’t show up to the team facility after a poor game against the New York Jets and had his effort questioned during a game against the Oakland Raiders.
According to Pro Football Focus, Roby has:
struggled with consistency in his five-year career in the NFL, and that trend continued this season with him posting a career-low grade of 59.8— one year after posting a career-high grade of 78.3. The Broncos deployed Roby on 926 snaps this season, and he responded by allowing 65.9% of passes thrown his way to be caught and a passer rating of 117.3 when targeted (both career-highs).
Roby saw 252 more snaps this season, which translated to only four more targets, but he allowed nearly 300 more yards and 200 more yards after the catch than he did last season. He was tied for 20th in targets this season (82) and gave up 823 yards (fourth most among corners). He was also near the bottom in terms of efficiency among cornerbacks, allowing 1.48 yards per coverage snap (102nd among 131 qualifying corners).
Roby would seem to be a candidate for the nickel back position that may soon be vacant given the Browns apparent lack of interest in retaining Briean Boddy-Calhoun.
But given the inconsistencies in his game, it is fair to wonder why the Browns would want Roby in the first place.
