2019 NFL draft: 6 safeties Chargers should consider to replace Jahleel Addae - Gavino Borquez
Adderley has the natural athletic ability and instincts to man the deep third of the field. He possesses very good range with silky smooth hips, ball skills and closing ability when the ball is in the air. He does well to read the quarterback’s eyes and move with them. He plays disciplined and under control, understands his coverage responsibilities.
Release of Addae shows growth in Chargers' GM Tom Telesco - Tyler Schoon
This move was undoubtedly difficult for Telesco, as Addae was one of the first undrafted free agent gems he ever discovered. Both were brought to the Chargers in 2013, and as the years went on both progressed and improved. Addae’s release, despite being called for by many fans, does come as a surprise to many who believed the six-year veteran would once again start at free safety.
Predicting the Los Angeles Chargers' offseason plan before free agency - Tyler Schoon
Often times, the Chargers’ first-round draft picks are incredibly predictable, especially when it comes to need. The team needed a corner and got Jason Verrett, needed a running back and got Melvin Gordon, and needed a receiver (since Keenan Allen was unreliable) and got Mike Williams. This time, they need a free safety; however, I don’t think Telesco makes the fans wait that long to have that need satisfied.
Former NFL Safety Matt Bowen on Derwin James: “He’s a Young Superstar” - Chris Hayre
“You look at scheme fit always with the rookies. Whether you’re talking about a first-round pick or a seventh-round pick or an undrafted free agent, [the] first thing is how they’re going to fit in your scheme and fit into your program, and how you can coach them in your scheme. Do they have coachable traits? Do they have some traits that are uncoachable? What I mean are special traits that just pop on the film. Derwin had all of that. … I mean, he’s a young superstar, that’s what he is.”
Pundits Offer Free Agency Advice to the Chargers - Hayley Elwood
“Save the deal for Russell Okung, Tom Telesco doesn't throw around a giant pile of money on big name players from other teams, preferring instead to take care of his own guys who are up,” Matt “Money” Smith said of the GM’s free agency mantra.
