Wis replacement?
The Philadelphia Eagles are seen as a possible suitor for free agent interior offensive lineman Brett Jones, according to Chris Tomasson from the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs are also said to be interested in Jones.
Jones, 27, began his career in the CFL before signing with the New York Giants in 2015. He made 14 starts in 30 games with the G-Men before being traded to the Vikings for a seventh-round pick last August. Jones made three starts in 14 games with Minnesota last year.
The Eagles could have interest in Jones, who has experience at both guard and center, as a potential Stefen Wisniewski replacement. The Eagles reportedly declined to pick up Wisniewski’s 2019 option on Monday.
With Wis leaving and Chance Warmack also set to hit free agency, the Eagles could afford to improve their interior offensive line depth. They currently don’t have a true backup for Jason Kelce, unless they put Isaac Seumalo at center, but then that leaves a hole at left guard. 2018 sixth-round pick Matt Pryor, who didn’t play at all as a rookie, is the only real backup guard of note on the roster right now.
Another reason the Eagles could afford to add a player like Jones is because Brandon Brooks is recovering from an Achilles injury. Pryor and Jones could battle for a temporary starting job at right guard if Brooks isn’t ready by Week 1.
