Over the weekend reports started to surface that the Jacksonville Jaguars would be signing free agent quarterback Nick Foles. It didn’t come as much of a surprise and everyone just kind of accepted the report because it made the most sense. The Jaguars think they’re in “win now” mode and have a good team that was just decimated by injuries and saddled with a bad quarterback in 2018, so signing someone like Foles who is at worst an average quarterback, will push them forward.
Those reports might have been a bit premature and could just have been dot connecting based on the slow market that appears to be out there for Foles, according to Mike Jones of USA Today.
Speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the talks, a person told USA TODAY Sports that Jacksonville does indeed have strong interest in Foles. However, a handful of other teams also have inquired about the quarterback’s services.
The Jaguars and Foles’ camp haven’t yet engaged in contract discussions, and neither has any other potential suitor.
I mentioned when the reports surfaced that it seemed really early for reports of a done-deal coming out at the NFL Combine, even though that’s usually when the free agency rumors start to pick up and really take steam. It appeared the Jaguars were the only actual team interested in bringing Foles in, however according to Jones the likes of the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants and even Washington are interested in bringing Foles in.
