Jaguars expected to sign Nick Foles

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the only team in the market for free agent quarterback Nick Foles and we should “absolutely expect” the team to sign him when NFL free agency starts on March 13, according to Les Bowen of philly.com.

Even though it is still way too early to be gauging competing interest, Foles seems to only have one suitor this year, according to Bowen.

A market for Nick Foles outside of Jacksonville has not developed, and though nothing is certain until it is official, the Jaguars absolutely expect to sign Foles, sources said. They have been working on the structure of a contract, as the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported. As McLane also reported, it might not place Foles among the league’s highest-paid QBs, since the Jags appear to be the only bidder. (Officially, the “legal tampering” period during which such activity is sanctioned begins March 11. But the Eagles’ announcement that they don’t plan to use the franchise tag on Foles would seem to make any possible tampering concerns moot.)

Two things —

First, isn’t it sort of a red flag when a high-priced veteran quarterback only has one team going after him?

Second, if the Jaguars don’t outbid themselves and get Foles cheaper than expected that’s... good, right? It doesn’t force them to put off drafting a first round quarterback (though it does lessen their chances).

What do you think? Are you taking this report at face value? Or do you think it’s a bunch of Bortles? Let us know in the comments below!
