Jeremy Maclin announces retirement from NFL

JMac is calling it a career.

Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is retiring from the National Football League. Maclin announced his decision among friends on Sunday:

Maclin, who turns 31 in May, hasn’t played in an NFL game since the 2017 season. He drew some interest from the Eagles last season but ultimately suffered an injury that stifled his comeback attempt.

Including playoff stats, Maclin finishes his NFL career with 531 receptions for 7,134 yards and 50 touchdowns. He played for three teams: the Philadelphia Eagles (2009 through 2014), the Kansas City Chiefs (2015 through 2016), and the Baltimore Ravens (2017).

I remember when the Eagles traded up to select Maclin with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. It was exciting to see him fall within Philly’s range. He ended up having a pretty good career, including one Pro Bowl appearance in 2014.

Here’s wishing Maclin the best in retirement.

In other news, Maclin’s retirement announcement was kind of overshadowed by an even bigger one: Rob Gronkowski’s. The former New England Patriots star is calling it a career at age 29. There’s a stronger case to be made now that Zach Ertz is the best tight end in the league.
