Another day, another mock draft. The day after the combine it was NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah putting out his mock. He stunned many by having Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray as the top pick to Arizona. The echo of that can be heard in Todd McShay’s latest mock draft in which he not only did the same thing, but has the exact same top nine picks as Jeremiah.
1. Arizona Cardinals — Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
2. San Francisco 49ers — Nick Bosa, ED, Ohio State
3. New York Jets — Quinnen Williams, DI, Alabama
4. Oakland Raiders — Josh Allen, ED, Kentucky
When you manage just 13 sacks -- a league low, and 17 fewer than the next-worst team -- you’d best be looking for pass-rushers. Allen himself out-sacked the Raiders in 2018, recording 17 coming off the edge for Kentucky. If the Jets don’t take him at No. 3, he fits a big need here.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi State
6. New York Giants — Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State
7. Jacksonville Jaguars — Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
8. Detroit Lions — Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan
9. Buffalo Bills — D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss
McShay’s mock draft also has another player going to the Raiders which Jeremiah did — Washington cornerback Byron Murphy. But he has him going at 24 instead of 27. Jeremiah had the Raiders taking a guard and cutting Kelechi Osemele. Taking Murphy here makes a lot more sense.
24. Oakland Raiders (From Chicago) — Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
After addressing the pass rush with Allen at No. 4, the Raiders could look for a ball hawk in the secondary here. Murphy’s football intelligence and fast eyes would make him a good fit in Paul Guenther’s defensive scheme.
After going defense with their first two picks, McShay has the Raiders addressing the wide receiver position at 27.
27. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas) — Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State
It’d be poetic for the Raiders to use the exact pick they got for Amari Cooper to add a game-changing wide receiver. Campbell displayed 4.31 speed in Indianapolis and hauled in 90 balls for 12 touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards last season. He’d be an explosive receiver for Derek Carr (or whoever is playing QB for the Raiders) and has the ability to develop a really polished route tree.
Getting a receiver with one of the Raiders’ low first round picks is a must. You can debate whether Parris Campbell is the right one to get here. It is clear McShay sees Campbell’s stock rising after his 4.31 40-yard dash at the combine. McShay has him as the third receiver taken in this draft behind D.K. Metcalf (9) and Marquise Brown (15).
