Nick Foles expected to sign with the Jaguars, per report

Turns out, there doesn’t appear to have been much competing interest for the QB.

It appears as though the market for quarterback Nick Foles isn’t quite as vast as initially thought. While several teams were rumored to be interested in signing the veteran QB — especially with the Eagles letting him become a free agent rather than requiring a trade — it looks as though the Jacksonville Jaguars are the only real suitor.

It’s not exactly a surprise that Foles would likely end up with the Jags, but without any kind of bidding war, it looks like the quarterback won’t go for as high of a price tag as initially speculated. This could also be part of the reason the Eagles decided to forego a trade.

Per Bowen’s report for Philly. com:

A market for Nick Foles outside of Jacksonville has not developed, and though nothing is certain until it is official, the Jaguars absolutely expect to sign Foles, sources said. They have been working on the structure of a contract, as the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported. As McLane also reported, it might not place Foles among the league’s highest-paid QBs, since the Jags appear to be the only bidder. (Officially, the “legal tampering” period during which such activity is sanctioned begins March 11. But the Eagles’ announcement that they don’t plan to use the franchise tag on Foles would seem to make any possible tampering concerns moot.)

Foles will be joining new Jaguars OC John DeFilippo in Jacksonville, and will not have any competition for the starting role. While it’s sad to see the former Super Bowl MVP leaving Philadelphia, he’ll get another shot at being a starter, something he’s been wanting for years.
