Ravens News 3/5: Combine takeaways, mock draft and more

Day 4 NFL Scouting Combine takeaways - Daniel Jeremiah

SAFETIES

Johnathan Abram, Mississippi State (No. 21 to Seahawks): He didn’t top former teammate Montez Sweat’s 4.41 40 like he predicted, but he came close. Jeremiah calls him one of his favorite players in the draft and that didn’t change with his combine workout.

”He plays as strong as you’ll ever see. ... You want to talk about all gas, no breaks. And every contact is a physical contact. You want to see someone fill the alley and deliver some huge shots, he’s your guy.”

Juan Thornhill, Virginia, (No. 76 to Redskins): His marks across the board were as good as any safety’s (4.42 40, 44-inch vertical jump, 11-foot-9 broad jump, 22 bench reps). Jeremiah believes the 6-0 1/4, 205-pound DB also has value as a potential corner.

”He’s tall and long and he can run. So, some team is thinking, we can put him out there at corner, we got something to work with.”

Darnell Savage, Maryland (No. 75 to Packers): He could have sat on his electrifying 4.39 40 run. Instead, he topped it with a 4.36. He also produced a 39.5-inch vertical jump. For Jeremiah, it reaffirmed that NFL teams shouldn’t get hung up on his lack of size (5-10 3/4, 198 pounds).

”He’s not the biggest guy, but he plays bigger than that size. Drives on football, makes plays, big hits. Go back, watch him [against] Ohio State, you’ll see everything you need to see.”

After testing better than expected, Thornhill will probably be picked on Day 2. His combined stats over the previous two seasons at Virginia are 109 solo tackles with 10 for a loss, 10 interceptions and 19 passes defensed.

2019 NFL combine top 100 prospects: Stock up for Montez Sweat, top linebackers after Sunday’s workout - Chris Trapasso

21. Drew Lock, QB, Missouri

22. Jawaan Taylor, OT, Flroida

23. Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

24. Jerry Tillery, DT, Notre Dame

25. Devin White, LB, LSU

26. Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida

27. Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

28. Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State

29. Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

30. Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

Some risers in this group. Tillery and White showed off springy athleticism, and Bush not only ran 4.43 at 234 pounds, he had a nice 6.93 three-cone time. At any other combine, Burns’ effort would be the leading story among defenders. He ran 4.53 and had a 36-inch vertical to go along with a 7.01. And he did it all after gaining weight to get to 249 pounds.

Notable prospects ranked between 11 and 20 of this big board include Dalton Risner, Hakeem Butler, Montez Sweat, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Josh Allen and D.K. Metcalf. Trapasso lists A.J. Brown and N’Keal Harry within his top-10 overall.

2019 NFL MOCK DRAFT 6.0 - Kyle Crabbs

22. Ravens

Garrett Bradbury

IOL, NC State

The Ravens’ rushing offense took flight with Lamar Jackson at the helm and while there’s some pass catchers who may be able to help Lamar’s passes take flight next season and beyond, the value here of Bradbury is too good to pass up.

Bradbury provides an upgrade for the Ravens, who are looking to effectively replace the departed Ryan Jensen (2018 free agency).

Cody Ford (11), Erik McCoy (18), and Chris Lindstrom (31) were the other first round interior blockers in Crabbs’ latest mock.
